IBM and Second Life
10-10-2007 21:38
I've been impressed with the fact that IBM has actual developers working on SL.
Two additional things catch my attention about this:
IBM was the world's first successful ASP (applications service provider). They made it work for corporations when no one else could. They've also been active in collaborative technologies since before the term "unified communications" was coined. If anyone can make SL into a viable corporate collaborative environment, it is IBM.
IBM has been a tireless Linux booster, and many people at IBM truly understand open source.

Well lets say since 1963..........But keep in account that this IBM is much much smaller then it was 10 years ago and only 1/3 the size of its size 20 years ago.

Wow, Strife thanks for those Re the CBS one, this sounds realy cool. Don't own a television, but I read up on the programme when it came up a while ago. Sounds like a very cool way to integrate SL with a television show. Re the IBM article, who is Linden Labs? (there, added a question for residents to answer )

From: someone This forum isn't for general discussion; there are many Resident Sites where this discussion is appropriate — Resident Answers is for Resident-to-Resident help. But it should be! I for one am pleased to see general SL topics posted here and I post some here myself and make no apologies. I wish we could have a general discussion section then this could just be used for questions and answers.

Nobody reported this yet? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7038039.stm"A virtual character, or avatar, for all the virtual worlds in which people play is the goal of a joint project between IBM and Linden Lab. The computer giant and the creator of Second Life are working on universal avatars that can travel between worlds. The project aims to open up virtual worlds by introducing open tools that work with any online environment. The companies hope to boost interest in virtual worlds as well as make them easier to navigate" Sounds interesting. Broccoli

Is this thread one of those cases of do as I say and not as I do?
When even the moderator wants a General Forum, why was it again that LL closed it??

From: Malachi Petunia Reported as "discussion in Resident Answers", and no, the question marks don't save you. So wait... you mean I could get banned from the forums for asking general-discussion-like questions of a moderator about his general discussion thread in the Resident Answers forum? Or is that another one of those general-discussion-like questions? omg, help me, I can't seem to stop....
