From: Novis Dyrssen One thing I found to help immensely with performance is when you go to preferences -> adv. graphics -> card memory. There, reduce the setting to a lower one. Say, your card has 128 mb of video RAM, set it to 64 MB. A bit of the details will get lost, but in return, SL will not power up your card to the max if it thinks you have less video RAM and it will run much more smoothly. My machine's pretty high spec (way over the minimum recommended spec.) and I've been having lag problems for a week or so now. So I tried your suggestion..WOW!! I went back to a marina I visited an hour ago where everything was taking an age to rez, just to test it..it was pretty well instant this visit..so either SL just realised a plug wasn't switched on.. ..or you've just given me/us the SL fix of the year.. Thanks Novis!!

I went back three times prior to trying this adjustment when I was tweeking my preferences (I was using the location as a trial for the tweek); on each occassion I experienced the same lag problems, if those textures had been in my cache then (and they probably were), then the improvement should have happened on the second and third visit as well as 'this' visit. The difference was spectacular, I have no doupt it was a result of this adjustment. It may not work for everyone but I'd say "give it a try..can't get any worse."

Thought I'd just satisfy myself that the improvements were due to the adjustment, so I visited a few busy locations..busy prim wise that is, garden centres, marinas and malls, places where there are lots of 'things' on display. I found everything rezzing within seconds whereas before it might take minutes. I also found the sims on the map came into view a lot faster. And to be honest I didn't find any really noticeable loss in quality. No doupt in my mind..solved any lag problems I had..
