Tried it, got my frame rate slashed in half on either Mac or Windows, as compared to 1.22 on the exact same settings. Uninstalled it.

It's weird. 50/50 actually. Halve the people using it say fps has sky rocketed. the other half say fps is in the gutter.

Did you see this thread, Tarina? I read it yesterday, when I was considering installing Snowglobe, then said Naaahhhh. But I have also read good things, kinda hard to tell, seems random.

I'm waiting for it to have some UI feature differences to give me a reason to try it, or for a third party variation so I don't lose the features I get atm from Cool SL Viewer.

In Snowglobe, the world map actually RENDERS. I've also noticed that textures seem to pop in a lot faster. That's good enough for me :p

/me got an FPS boost. Nothing to jump up and down about but it seems better.

Where's the option to not have the minimap rotate as you turn?

Tried it - FPS dire and bizzare shapes flashing everywhere..

Vista 64bit
ATI Radeon 4850

I'll try again when it's updated - the RC works great for me.

Not much difference here between 1.23.4 and Snowglobe.

It's in Preferences...I think on the general tab...

Hi Sindy! It is in Advanced,UI and more is there too. The preferences got too big and options moved there. I hope they can think of a better interface.

I'm using it all the time right now. My fps have jumped a lot, textures open much faster especially when clicking the texture box in the build window, new inventory windows open much faster, the gray blobs actually rez quickly rather than staying gray for a long time. I have not yet crashed from camming around lots with it -- and that is the absolute biggest plus for me.

I am using the new release full time now, its very stable for me. I only get crashes with shadows turned on. Snow Globe looks great on my computer, but it crashes every 5 minutes or so :-(

I did a quick run through of the viewers I have installed on my computer.
Default ultra settings
1680X1024 resolution full screen
Standing at the same location in mouse look with 50% water in my viewer.

The results...

Release 1.21.6~~~Steady 34.1 FPS and it looks good. Until the new update this ran the most stable on my computer.

Newest Release 1.23.4~~~Steady 35.7 FPS Looks V.Good. Very stable.

Snow Globe~~~Bouncing FPS 33.8 for a few seconds and then 44.1 for a few seconds then back down. Unstable for me but it looks great.

I thought the bouncing FPS was odd so I ran all 3 viewers again and got the same results, its odd.

Try Snow Globe, it won't install over your older viewer and you might get awesome results.

I just tried Snowglobe, and it has improved my framerate considerably. Nowhere near what Rafe has :P, but considering my graphic card is nVidia 7300LE, I am quite pleased to have any improvement at all!

Love the fact that you can throttle the came width up to 5000 instead of the 1000 in 1.23.4 and older. That made a huge difference for me in loading times. In these days where having an 24 mb connection might be considered pretty standard, that change was long overdue.

hoped for more differences between the 2 LL viewers. And sometimes the building tools mess up in snowglobe for me.

Positives:

- being able to throttle bandwidth to 5K
- textures are loading faster for me. Lots faster. No increase in FPS, but faster rezzing everywhere.
- I love the new cam/avi movement. You can now zoom in or out on yourself when standing still and that perspective remains as you walk.

Negatives:

- a little bit crashy, but not bad.
- the naked glitch. Every 25 or so logins all my prim clothing attachments rez, but system clothes do not. I rez wearing only my beard, shoes, and maybe a shirt collar (well, AND the twinkle in my eye ... but THAT is always there, honest). Popups, dialog boxes and the inventory window are also transparent. I simply relog and all is well again. I have never asked anyone else whether they can see my clothing at these times.

Anyone else experienced the Naked Glitch?

Another vote for much faster texture loading with Snowglobe, but I can't enable antialiasing with it (screen goes black and remains black until I relog). That's a big minus point from me, since I have a massive monitor and run at a high resolution, and I can't bear the jaggies that come with no anti-aliasing.

I just installed it and logged in for the first time. I got that naked glitch and transparent windows. Relogging fixed the problem.

I haven't used it long enough to compare performance, but so far it seems about the same.

I get an everything except my head is invisible glitch, which makes me really really want 1.24 to hurry up and appear so I can do it intentionally.

I've been using it for a couple of days and haven't had any problems whatsoever. And yes, rezzing textures seem faster. I'm also glad to have the Friends button back on the bottom menu.

I've been using it for about 3 days now and would not go back to the RC after this. My fps are now steady at 40-45 and textures load ten times faster for me. I have 2 other friends that tried it out also..one with a Mac and she loves it...but the one with Vista did not have a fps jump like we did (Im on XP).

One thing I figured how to turn off right away was the moving lips lol...it made myself and all other avies look pretty silly IMO:) Also there were some settings I had to change after looking at the wiki...like textures to http instead of uid and some other things. Not sure what all they were but I could find where we read if anyone is interested... when I get home from work tonight.

I accidently clicked on my RC to log in once yesterday and was shocked at how laggy it was and how slow textures loaded. I immediately logged back out and came back in on Snowglobe.

Anybody else seen the funky lines on the minimap problem?
