If the FTC takes a reasonable look at SL, they'll conclude that LL actually does a pretty good job creating an environment that is not conducive to child predators.

It bugs me when I see people talking about the "illegal drugs" in SL. For one thing, they were pretty much on the way out, back when I first came to SL. Not profitable. The only people that got into the "drug selling" business were gullible noobs who were too cheap even to buy a BIAB.

For another thing, drugs in SL don't act at all like drugs in RL. They aren't addictive, and they don't even give you a good high. All they do is produce some particle effects or distortions on your monitor. Feh.

Yeah, a real threat to society, that.

It seems a bit premature for Darien to close her store, if you are just looking at what is objectively known so far about the FTC report, but I can totally understand simply not wanting to even deal with the crap anymore.

It can be emotionally exhausting to always have to wonder whether this or that move by LL or the US government is going to negatively impact your SL business or activities. You get tired of it after a while, just like people get tired of the lousy performance and every new server or client release breaking stuff. Everyone has a limit, and sometimes the final straw is not the biggest one.

To me, that says "I am leaving SL".

Most people do not say "Everyone enjoy your SL. And Goodbye. I am closing my store."

Usually: "Enjoy your SL" joined with "Goodbye" is a final farewell.

/me hopes that Darien sticks around but I too think it is a little premature to be taking any drastic action.

At least someone's taking action about it. My opinion thinks that "government" officials shouldn't get too far involved into these kind of things with our economy the way it is. The government should focus more on the economy then this. I think LL should stay on this one for a while.

SL will be worse off without Dari's Haus around. Dari significantly raised the bar for quality products in her market, and built a tight-knit user community that few content creators can match.

I have never once engaged in any explicit acitivity in world, but this fantaticism even has me scared. I do think that people should stay and fight for what they believe in. I mean congress can't outlaw sex entirely.

To me the problem isn't hunting down pedo's, even from a government, it's that there seems no proper technology to do it properly, and misplaced accusations in this are just shocking, as are missed victims.

Also I just don't understand how letting children into mature areas, where people have been encouraged by Blondin to re word their ads so they can keep their adult content in the new version of mature, is going to save kids from pedophiles, to me it seems just the opposite.

I can't find the logic in it and am loath to think it's just simply LL being stingy with Ursula servers.

Dari made nice things, and she provided great service. I remember spending some time at her store during a product update, chatting while she patiently answered questions and talked people through the updating process. We also crossed paths at the Kidnap RP sim ocasionally. It was a pleasure to know here, however briefly

I worry about that too, here in Australia our government want a blanket filter on all our ISP providers, they say to catch pedo's, ok, fine it's a vile crime, but they are also talking about a black list of undesirable subjects. This is where it gets lethal.

This latest stuff from LL is not a small straw. It's a pretty damn big straw..
