Alt Accounts?

Alrighty, I'd like to create some alt accounts, the 'legal' way, or whatever, but how do I do that? Also, I heard that you can create an alt account right now without paying the extra .... is that right?

yea just go create one...from what i've heard you don't even need another email for up to 4 alts..i had to use a different email though. Ive seen someone write that when you get to the basic membership just make sure you don't choose premium and done youre set.

So, how do I do that? Just create a new account with the same email? How do I know if it's in accordance with their rules? There's like, NO good explanation anywhere.

From conversation with a Linden in-world:

A) Alts are currently free
B) The best way to establish an alt with LL is to buy a few lindens in-game. This will move the alt up to "payment info used" status.

you can get an alt with the same account you have now..it uses the same payment information and is a one time fee of 9.95.
you can buy lindens from the same source as your main..
i think you can only have one alt per account on the same payment info i believe..
but they are both treated as premium accounts

This is entirely wrong.

1: They don't charge you $9.95 USD any more, unless you use the account for griefing and get caught. Then they might charge you to keep the account.

2: You can have as many alt accounts on one payment method as you want. No limits.

3: Only the account that is a Premium account gets treated as such. Your alts are nit in any way linked to each other or to your main account. It doesn't matter if you used the same payment source as your main or not.

Wow. Multiple wrongness.

A) Alts are NOW FREE.
B) You can have multiple alts with the same CC info.
C) Premium has to be bought SEPARATELY for EACH alt.

Not near as fun as it would sound, being illegal and all. Kind of like being on the group W bench for littering.

I made one for the party next week constructed entirely of marijuana. He's ok unless he gets near open flames or a Grateful Dead concert, then he's screwed. He's as flammable as one of the Sims.

TOTALLY illegal way to make an alt. I was going to build him out of parts stolen from other alts, also illegal, but I couldn't figure out how to take an alt apart without getting caught.

To the OP - it looks like your question has been answered. Other than buying someone else's account, which would be a silly way to make an alt anyway, there really is no illegal way. Just sign up for a new account from the main SL page. Sometimes you need a new email address, sometimes your existing one works. I haven't the faintest idea why - that's SL for you. You don't have to take your alt account premium, nor does your main have to be premium, for that matter, unless you have some other reason, like land ownership. You can sneak around with your alt all you want. A lot of people make alts just so they can play with someone special or be alone if they want.

What would be the advantage of buying an alt over making one yourself?

Getting all their stuff and their already established reputation, I suppose.

- I could save time by not having to TP (and therefore crash) all over SL to get her/him put together.

- I could buy a name that I really like that has already been taken

- I could buy some bombshell of a babe so that all the guys would want to make sexxies with me - of course that probably really only needs any avi that looks even remotely female.

So I made an Alt ... it's male (RL keyboarder is female) ... someone asked me, "Why did you do that?" ... I assume she meant make a male avatar when I am really a female person, but I don't really have any other answer except ... "Because I can"

Has anyone else created an av that was opposite sex as them? Why did YOU do that? ... if not ... why not?

Adana, people do it all the time here. For fun, for variety, for sport. To see how the other half lives. Not to mention that there are a great many transgendered people in SL.

Heck, you don't even have to stay the same species, let alone the same gender.

In the last week I was playing around with female shapes as I was wondering if I might go to a particular party in an alternate account as a female. In the end I decided to not actually make a female alt. I was uncomfortable in the opposite gender shape.

Oddly, the short experience finally found me my male human avatar. Has been more than 11 months now and I had just not been able to find it. Now I think I have it.

Well I knew there were female avs who were keyboarded by men ... a couple of them hit on me *shudder* ... I guess I just didn't understand why my friend was so shocked. It wasn't like I was keeping a secret about who I really was.

Anyway, I have been a Dragon, a Dwagon, a Wolf, a Bird, a Bee, a Butterfly, a Book, a Squirrel, a Meerkat, a Succubi (4 different types), a Gryphon ... what else ... oh yeah ... Fish, Horse, Cat ... I think I'm having an identity crisis ... or several ...
