My gf7600 died, and I'm trying to decide to look for another 7600 or bite the bullet and dump Windows 2000. The link Baloo posted seems to be stale, and it's from 2007 in any case, it's probably not up to date.
My budget is pretty small. Buying a Windows XP or Vista license will pretty much wipe out any chance of anything but a bottom-of-the-family card, so there's a lot to be said for staying with something I know I can plug in and just work.
Advice?

From: Gellan Glenelg As mentioned earlier in this thread, either 1) Disable palletized textures (Ctrl-Alt-D to get the advanced menu, then Ctrl-Alt-F7) and rebake (Ctrl-Alt-R)
or 2) Upgrade to the Release Candidate client (1.22.x) This worked perfectly for me. For the longest time I have had an issue of when i wear a tattoo Jacket, my legs (no matter what i wore) would turn orange. I disabled palletized textures and the issue is resolved.

Advice? Didnt I read somewhere SL is dropping support for Windows 2000? so you may not have a choice if you want to continue playing SL Nvidia drivers are also up to 182 or so now.

Advice? Get a 9800GTX+ and skip on the Windows upgrade until Windows 7 is released.

it's a dirty trick, but some companies offer a dual setup disk of XP and VISTA, installing only one on the customers computer. talk to someone that has this and grab the unused OS, which isn't linked to the first.... instant 'free' upgrade from 2K. (PS personally I recommend going for that leftover XP install if you can, it's usually XPpro, where the vista install might be anything.)
another option is to get an old XP key from someone that "upgraded" to vista, which is just as effective

("I think not", said Rene Descarte, and vanished in a puff of logic) Edit: If I was willing to install XP without getting a license I could do it, any number of ways, but that's not how I roll.

From: Mangosio Lohner Any new developments with the new GTX 2xx series cards that I need to know about? I will be buying a new desktop very soon I'm considering the 9800 GT, 9800 GTX+, and either the 260 or 280, each card alone or as an SLI setup. Seems no one is completely free of video card related isues, just wanting to make doubly sure I'll be making the right choices on the big day. I have GTX295 cards, with the 181.22 driver, and that works great with all my settings as max as they can be. No issues at all. I normally use the RC, but have logged in with the normal client a few times without any problems.

From: Sharcel Bellic I see a post that says that driver version 178.24 works with a 9800 gt card. Looking at the troubles people on that board are having doesn't make me inclined to try it.
