Learn how to do something new?
Create something?
Take a class?
Go to discussion?
Find a event?
Hop around the grid?

GHOST TOWN!

As we discussed at length in another recent thread on this same subject, it's a simple question of math. SL currently has about 2 billion square meters of land in it, and an average concurrency of around 50,000 people online at any given time. That breaks down to about 1.6 people per sim.

To put that in perspective, every event that attracts 30 people does it by completely draining about 18 other sims.

In order for the vast majority of the land not to be a ghost town, SL needs at least 30 times or so the active population it's got now. Either that, or remove 90% of the land (which is never going to happen).

If you want SL to feel more crowded, ask yourself when was the last time you signed up a friend and got them involved with it?

Oh, you mean make the first 2/3 of it really good, and then at the end go "Wait a minute. The writers are all on strike and we still need to finish this sucker. I know, anyone got a hand grenade? Yeah, that would do it right quick. Because that ending the book had, the one that actually made sense, and was intelligent and meaningful, that's apparently too difficult for our feeble Hollywood brains to handle. Explosions are cheap and easy, and they require no writing, so let's just end with that."

Wait, did I say that out loud?

Quite a lot of SL mainland is a ghost town in a different sense. Most of the land in the sim I live in belongs to absentee owners who never log in. I have not seen any of my neighbours for months, two of them I've never seen at all!

As for what's worth doing in SL - basically the same as it's always been during the 2 years I've been here.

Showcase SUx! Use places search. That atleast gives you some sort of traffic count and how busy a place is. and no, not all the busy places are bots and campers either..

Why yes, you should come spend money at my store! :D

If you're looking for something more exciting, you could do like this guy did and push bots out of skyboxes.

And so the great problem is revealed: places are either deserted or there are too many avatars congregated together rendering a sim so laggy it is unacceptable. Famine or feast? Or maybe that latter situation should be better described as incipient indigestion.

Perhaps SL should be remarketed as a place for, say, couples to do whatever couples want to do . . .

Pep (Oh, that's right, it's what the press have been doing recently)

oooo ... what I just saw! This is a GREAT place for the old "consecutive thread titles" game. Here are the first 4 thread titles:

- "Is there anything worth doing in SL anymore???"

- "Attack on the road ...."
- "Bot count ... "
- "Escorting and stripping in SL"

wow... I sure dont' have anything to add to that.

What a wonderful place this forum is! He got his answers and didn't even have to open the thread!

and the fifth was "Ignore this thread.... " which is a worthwhile endeavor as well.

There are normally allways people in my store and I see lots of people when I visit places and events in world so I have the completely opposite experience. More likely you are just out of touch of the popular hangouts and events.. Price you pay for being a PART TIMER!

Wait - you mean like everyone abandoning their OS sims?

Never say never.

Don't you just wish actors would just act and STFU about everything else? I do. I don't need them to shape my opinions. In one sense it's too bad their guy won. With so many of them promising to leave the country if he didn't, the air quality in LA would have improved immensely if they had. Spare me from celebrity activists.

On the OP, I guess it depends on what you find fun.

For the past two weeks, I've had the time of my life in SL. Every evening zipping past before I realize it.

He *definitely* isn't an actor!

Pep (As he said when asked which classical composer he would like to portray "I'll be Bach";)

The Omega Man itself is a remake of "The Last Man on Earth" starring Vincent Price which was made in the early 60's, and is the best out of all of them, in my opinion.
