From: Colette Meiji actually in the US we have this crazy legacy notion called "States Rights" and different states have different rules about alcohol, drinking ages, and cases like you described. Yeah .. Diffrent countrys also have diffrent laws regarding "Being of age" .. .. unfortunaly for the "freind" of the OP this is not one of them .. .. Abide by the rules and be honest on signup .. .. or just go away until you can abide and agree with and honnour the laws of SL.

From: Brenda Connolly /me giggles. I actually remember when I visited my brother in Texas one summer. He told me how one town could be dry, one would only sell beer in supermarkets, no hard liquor at all, and some would have full liquor sales all in the same area. Some would have regular bars, and some would only have "Private Bars". You had to buy a Club Card, usually like $5 a year. He'd buy all the booze he could at the Base Exchange and sell it to the locals, at quite a profit. and this scenario actually compares to "yo bro" selling booze to kidz ? not really something to giggle about !

not really something to giggle about ! Who said they were kids? They were actually adults, he carded them.Kept strict records. Even charged them sales tax.

I am limited in the time I can spend here and must admit I only "skim" posts .. it just troubles me when I get the impression that responsible forum regulars seem to make light of something that is as serious as underage people on an adult grid.

Yeah there is a tangent on inconsistant drinking policies. Drinking and pornography regulations were compared a few pages back. Its the dry county / wet county stuff (for adults) that led to the levity.

OK apollogies in advance .. I don't have the time to read all the stuff that goes on "inbetween" the OP and where I can catch up .. but sometime it makes me sad to see a serious post reduced to humour.
I will stay clear of replying from no on if I can't read the whole post.
Regards to all.

It's not dissimilar to alcohol, which is why the comparison was made.

Even using double negatives .. ie "not dissimilar" .. I don't see why responsible adults make fun/humour or even try to condone such actions.
OP should have been told so from the begining and the topic left.

Don't think anyone tried to condone underage Residents in Second Life (except the OP) , nor underage drinking.

WOW. 112 replys that was alot more than i expected but the thing is hes a lot more worried about losing most of his inventory and groups xD. proberly because of all the weapons. what would go under the extreme violence category? but honestly i don't think the lack of pixel sec and pornographic images would really worry any teen because it's so easy to get anyway.

Yup, it seems ironic that someone is legally allowed to have real sex with real people when they're 16, but they're not allowed to watch cartoons doing it on SL until they're 18.

My question is. What happens with age verification if you 1) don't have a passport and 2) don't have a social security number?
(i live in the UK, see.)

It seems that LL became totally quiet on the subject of age verification. Is it back to the drawing boards after the initial rollout fiasco?

Or, was it a knee-jerk reaction to some bad press; and now that the press has quieted down are they letting IDV slide further down their list of things-to-do? -Atashi

(i live in the UK, see.) Hiya Soap My husband and I are also UK, and we verified last night using driving licences. In the Zip code box just put the first part of your postcode - it only has space for 5 characters. If you don't have a driving licence or passport, then it may be that you can't verify at all, which would appear to be ridiculous! All the best Pixie xxx

All the best Pixie xxx My thoughts exactly. I don't have a passport and don't drive, as you know its just too expensive to do anything when you're a humble student. I would HOPE that LL took the initiative to be able to check visa details to prove that someone is over 18 with the bank or something. Either way, they must address this issue.

Either way, they must address this issue. I am assuming you mean Visa as a credit card. Here in the US the banks have stated that a credit card is not valid proof of age of age. Don't know about th UK. Every other Adult site seems to be covered by the "I am over 18 Checkbox", for material far more sensitive than any of the cartoon hijinkx in SL. LL has the idea that they want to show they are above and beyond the typical adult site, well..............yeah, OK.

Is it back to the drawing boards after the initial rollout fiasco? its possible they are moving forward quietly The tools to segregate land have been added in the latest veiwer, The knowledge base entry was unpdated ... Its possible you will be expected to be age-verification compliant without them ever actually announcing you have to be.

LL has the idea that they want to show they are above and beyond the typical adult site, well..............yeah, OK. Incredibly bad idea, totally uncessary and will kill off ALOT of users. Some people just wont WANT to give that kind of verification. A checkbox is fine. Then later if it is revealed someone is underage then account deletetion (or removal of account to the teen grid) wont be too drastic a measure now will it? Thumbs down for age verifcation. Im 24, almost 25 but I don't see WHY I should verify my age. In some cases stuff that would be 'illegal' in regards to 'adult content' is actually not applied to 'drawn or 3d images'. So therefore the age verifcation thing under law becomes a moot point. I vote checkbox. oh...and agreeing to the TOS means you agree to being over 18 anyway. This is alot of fuss about nothing.

It seems with the latest updates the Verified by Age access can be enabled, but it doesn't work. I get the "You must be age verified to access this parcel", it directs me to the website and that tells me I am already Age Verified.!
