Hiyas Suze! I checked out the list of links you have there. HiPiHi is billed as a Chinese Second Life clone according to this article.
Sure enough the feel of their website is spookily similar. I'm actually surprised that A Certain player didn't get there first. Or is Xu Hui an alt or employee? .Areae seems a bit of a non-starter. On a casual glance, Kaneva looks a bit like a 'There' clone. Cybertown, hohoho, they really know how to pick their name :D Sign up for t3h cybering :D

50 years from now we will all be tied in into the internet playing SL as our real lives via virtual reality. Living in a real world will be the thing of the past!

Lining in a real world? Sounds interesting. Where do I log on?

Second Life aka The Matrix is perhaps one way of stopping global warming, providing everybody with a beachfront condo on a beautiful tropical island, prolonging real life, preventing or slowing down our species use of finite natural resources on this planet, and enabling the growth of machine self aware conciseness intelligence to run the grid.

Actually that’s a semi serious comment folks because if you go outside at night and look up at the (real) stars, any normal person would think it would be almost unbelievable to think we are alone in the Universe.

So perhaps ET is in his/her/its own virtual world already, hence the no show to date for the quite logical reasons mentioned in my first paragraph

Regards

John (in a thoughtful mode)

Except the average SL avatar consumes more power than the average Brazilian, or something.

50 years? Some of the techniques used in the SL software might be still be about, I doubt the software itself will be though. If it survives that long, SL as a brand will probably be more like a content portal (think Yahoo or Netscape) than anything else.

Doesnt hurt to post ideas here?
We know it's planned, it's in the wiki, so...

Once we all get used to "The Grid" as opposed to "The Net". The Net being what we have as The Internet and The Grid being the 3D Web we know as SL. (In it's infancy)

In time, we all have our own regions and so have MySpace but much bigger. And the rest...
Moving on, we have the world as we know it, all mapped out via Google and Co, providing a real-time GPS accurate 3D world. This could be the Public Grid but only transient in that it can be remoddelled at will with skins and the like to keep it PG for example. Streets will have all and more shiny advertising that ever they could wish for. Your own property can have a portal to your private, or public "World."

Stay with me here...

Now for the interesting bit...Remember, were 50 years in the future
Walk down any street and check it out, aint real life grand. Trees and shit. Now that the civic authoroties cleaned up the streets, nothing intrusive appears other than street signs and the ever present "No Parking". Oh, and traffic, lots of traffic, but quiet and clean traffic, all electric traffic.

Now reach for your breast pocket and remove the "Glasses".
Your grand real life instantly comes alive with fireworks and flashing neon everywhere, whoa, turn down that particle count.

The live feed being provided to the "Glasses" shows GPS acurate Real World buildings overlayed by the 3D Virtual World graphics and a Stargate type portal into the ";(insert sexual connotation here) World for Men";) just on the corner there. Um, maybe, no Im busy, definately next time.

There will be fees and there will be death, it can be assured but for some real world 3D fun I don't think it will get any better than that. I can say, I wont live that long. DAMN!

So if you want real world, leave dem specs at home.

}}}}}Shortened because it could have been a novel.{{{{

Have fun people and be nice to each other...

I close my eyes, only for a moment, and the moment's gone
All my dreams, pass before my eyes, a curiosity
Dust in the wind, all they are is dust in the wind.
Same old song, just a drop of water in an endless sea
All we do, crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see

Dust in the wind, all we are is dust in the wind

[Now] Don't hang on, nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky
It slips away, and all your money won't another minute buy.

Dust in the wind, all we are is dust in the wind
Dust in the wind, everything is dust in the wind.
