Apologies if already posted but im getting asked if any truth in tier payments being increased by 50% next year? It sounds too ridiculous to be true but well this is SL/LL....
Some increase accompanied by extra prim allowances maybe....loads more prims....

Are you referring to the Open Spaces issue? If so, it's true, there's plenty of chat about this on previous forums.

Costs will rise from $75 per month to $95 per month in January and then $125 er month in July. If you own mainland or a parcel on a full prim private estate then you will be unaffected. Some rental companies are absorbing the costs and others are passing them on to customers. Others are just going out of business and closing all their sims down.

I'd be pretty surprised if they up the prim limits: rezzing performance is sucking wind already--a fate in store for any alternate grids with 3X prim limits that last long enough for access network scaling to become a real consideration. I do cringe a bit whenever residents ask for a more rational tier structure without such nonlinear jumps. Not that it isn't broken, but I'm more than a little nervous whenever LL's attention drifts to pricing of anything. I can too easily see them patting themselves on the back for making tier "more flexible" by charging everybody a flat US$5/mo/512 or something equally disastrous. But, hey, we asked for it.

I don't think anyone would pay that amount, unless they start a business to cover the insane costs.
I don't like paying over 100 US Dollars every month for a small piece of baked air. If LL intends to have everybody sign off permanently, then they should keep going like this.

Another price change now would be a disaster. I think even LL knows it this time.
Also a mainland tier change could upset the delicate ballance between estates and the mainland. One small change could make mainland more financially atractive and close a lot of estates in the process.

I, too, was curious about the rumors. I know about the Open Sim increases (being hit hard by that one), but the rumors about overall tier increases are quite prevalent. One post I've seen elsewhere suggested full tier would go from $295 to $395 by the end of '09. That would, I think, essentially cripple most small business owners and put an end to any "mom and pop" type places. Come on Mr. Linden (ANY Linden)...say it isn't so!

From: Arielyn Docherty by the end of '09 Anything predicted to happen "by the end of '09" is wild speculation. I don't like to predict what LL will do tomorrow.

by the end of 2009 full sims will still cost the same, but you will be limited to 3750 prims with a strict script limit, textures over 256 x 256 will be banned and each sim will only allow 5 avatars at the same time. each full sim will share the same core as 3 other full sims.

From: Elanthius Flagstaff Anything predicted to happen "by the end of '09" is wild speculation.. Agreed. By the end of 2010 isn't too wild, though. The openspace tier bump was announced almost exactly 2 years after the private island bump. I'd bet, as somewhat-wild but not totally-wild speculation, that we'll see something else happen within 2 years. From: Storyof Oh Apologies if already posted but im getting asked if any truth in tier payments being increased by 50% next year? Totally untrue!! It's 67%.

If anything, the biggest thing to drive this rumor, for whatever it is, is how comfortable the SL community has gotten to calling all these payments "tier". "Tier" is the tiered payment method of mainland ownership allowances that reduces in overall cost as the amount of total land you own. (^_^) But estates and islands are charged directly by setup and maintenance fees with no tier method in place. And, it's leased out by the estate owner based on whatever fixed recurring fee they decide to charge. Yet... Most people still call it "tier". (=_=) End result... Mainlanders get these messages second-hand and "sky is falling" mode gets activated. (>_< I'm in a few helper groups... I've lost count of the times I've had to say "No, tier is not changing, it only applies to Open Space sim setup and maintenance fees." (>_< Ugh. (T_T)

This rumour is probably more likely related to grandfathered sims, with some prominent land owners selling them now as they hold extra value it has got tongues wagging that grandfathered status will be ended.

If they flatten it out, it had better be at the discounted rate.

@OP: Prokofy asked this question about mainland to Jack Linden recently and their conversation is on Prokofy's blog. Summary is that there are no plans to increase mainland tier.
