Instead of starting Cartel thread XXV, I will highjack this thread for an announcement.

New Year's Eve!!!!

Ladies find your gowns and men take those tuxes out of mothballs. The Forum Cartel is sponsoring a New Year's Eve Party. The Lovely and Gracious LittleMe Jewell will be your hostess, and she has promised to greet all the gentlemen under the mistletoe. The party starts at 7 pm SLT, but knowing us, there will be festivities earlier as well.
Formal wear is not mandatory, so come as you are. You never know, I might just be in a toga. :D IM LittleMe if you want a LM for a free tux or gown.

3am for us in the UK, 4am for Central Europe.

Gee!!! I think I was sleepy or delirious last night when I wrote what I wrote...Or it could have been because I was dancing with a very nice young lady who knows how to cut a rug! (Guess who it was gang)!
I think of all the choices, the Forum Hangout will be your ticket. I also hang out at Rasta Island and Resort, a kind of Reggae hang-out... another great bunch there too! Some of the forum bunch stop by there from time to time to dance and, play spin the bottle, surf, sail, scuba, and the like!
Two very excellent hangouts that are different, but have the same warm open arms of acceptance, and love for fun!

Don't have to guess, I was there. Expected to see ears and tail on her, though. Wasn't that what you were going to do? Nekoize her?

Oh, and there is a surfboard, windsurf board, bull-riding, swing-set, scuba diving at the Forum Cartel Hangout land. And drums and stuff. Everyone seems to hang out in the building though.

Mothballs? Should I put it into some mothballs then to then take out?

And the last Cartel thread was titled "2008"

And 10 pm my time isn't bad . . .

You are free to start the party earlier. The time listed was the time the hostess decided she would be starting.

I second the motion for Events. I've gone to a few live music events recently and had an absolute blast at both of them, even though neither one was a genere that I'm particularly in to. I can't wait to do more.

Guess I should third that one :D

If anyone wants a list of a few recommended live music venues throw me an IM inorld send you a notecard.

:)

I normally just run around from act to act, but sometimes just sit there watching three acts in a row. Sometimes it is easier just sitting there, sometimes it is easier to TP to other places - I mean for lag and all that. Last night (was it last night?) or the night before I kept getting insufficient memory error messages in one venue and ended up crashing while staying in the same venue. So, I am not sure if jumping from one act to another, or staying in one location is better.

I crashed mid IM, hope nothing was lost in IM. :)

And somewhere along the way I was going to actually reply to the OP. Forum Cartel seems friendly. The Book Moochers/Bookstacks/LibraryThing people are also friendly. Since March my friend list has only grown to 7 people, so I have no idea where to meet people, though.

My new place has music venue capacity. It just will be ... well, those of you who know me KNOW what it is likely to be like. Just smaller.

Maybe you'll like this one as much as you liked the last one Trout. Maybe.

Same here. Depends on the venue and the musicians I guess.
Open mic at the Hummingbird or Sterling can have me staying around and I tend to get stuck at Rocky Shores, but that's possibly because my foot keeps tapping through the bridge :D

More than one music venue finds me trapped below ground (not in the ground, in some cavern below the building) because of all the lag and the like, and the unstable nature of just standing there, or just taking one step . . and sinking.

The Freudian Slip at Seven Veils allowed me to sit very close to the performance while resting in a um . . inner tube on water.

Let's see . . venues:
Rocky Shores
Seven Veils
Luxor Stage
Sunset Jazz Club
Stardust Cafe
Bookstacks - very neat sky thingie built . . one of the few times I've heard a music act stop and admire the build . . .

You may be fighting with me for that spot. I don't plan on going anywhere this year, there is a good possibility I will be sound asleep when the Ball drops in Times Square.

Oh if we're naming names :) :
I'll add Glass Earth and Space Odessy as venues that are also very cool builds. Woodstock's also pretty neat and the opera house in Zurich City is pretty spectacular. And The New Vibe is a fave of mine, always a laugh. Oh and the Lily Pad is also nice.
Plus some of the pub-type places have great live music on a regular basis. Always good from a socialising point of view.

Could go no........ there's so many!

We were going to go shopping last night, but got caught up in the dance, no hurry...she was a Neko before I was...she just needs an update (twitchy tail)

So what's going on on New Year's Eve? Huh? did I miss anything?

The deck at Info Island - the Library. Yep. You may think it would be boring..they try to keep that little lie out there to keep the cool kids away. But it's the most intelligent, fun loving group I've encountered in SL. We formed a group (InfoManiacs) and are putting out a calendar to raise money for our parties. We have our own 'sky deck' above the Info Deck so we don't disturb the business of information giving. Staffed by real life librarians from around the world - it is an amazing place and group. Come try it out!!

LOL @ Bodhi's twelfth century squarish Mongolian ceramics. That gave me a chuckle.

Re: NYE, I'll definitely try to make it but no guarantees, as my dad's family is in town. I'm going to try to escape their crazy drunken Irish clutches early in the evening.

I found fun and play in Deadwood ... yes, it's a western roleplay, but it's more historical than shoot 'em up.... there are sometimes plots running that you can be part of, as well as running your own storylines..

I've made friends there and now my problem is I need to get a life outside of there, as I'm thoroughly addicted....looking through this thread has given me some ideas for other places to go... but...I ...can't...seem..to...leave....

I've been to Zurich City, but not in the opera house. Maybe I was in a different Zurich sim. The life music was out in the open on ice with the option to ice skate, though few were ice skating.

Be kind of neat to have live music at the forum hangout :)

Boring? Only reason I ever tried Second Life was a meeting in SL for LibraryThing. :) All these many months and I never knew about the fun at Info Island. Ah well . . .

Having recently been in the same situation.. I can relate..

But, I didn't go looking myself, I just hung out with a female friend on SL toured the music venues met all kinds of people and decided it wasn't so bad not having a partner in SL.

Then, from no where it came along... an old friend (not my femme friend btw) made an offer I could not refuse. mmmm.... /me dreaming about him
So take some time, regroup... If you go searching for it your going to settle for something you may not normally settle for... You don't have to have a partner on SL, a good friend can do wonders for you and that might develope into something beautiful.

And not all the girls dressed in little skirts and tube tops are loose women so don't judge them like that. Some just like to shock people, and thats ok! SL is all about doing things you might not normally do in RL. So don't judge em....

And I think when they say Hun they do not mean anything bad by it, they are just being friendly..

And look past the avatar and into the person in the skin don't discount that lost newbie asking for help... You may make a secondlifelong friend in them.

And as far as new years goes, its far better to sit at home and go online and celebrate online, then going out getting drunk driving home and possibly killing yourself or someoene else or someone else whos drunk doing it to you... These things keep me home, or I just go to the coast sit alone and think about the last resolution I made and how I didn't keep it and wonder if I can make the same one again....

I'm a speed-reader :D Seriously though, some venues, gigs (and fans) are worse than others in that respect.

Two things I found amazing last night:
1) The howling was coming from the host, the partner of another music performer, and that other music performer
2) the partner and the host actually were pretty intelligent and engaging when not howling.

I must remember that. Do not prejudge howlers. :)

Oh, and I am a speed reader myself, but I can't seem get my speed reading to work in SL for some reason :) Too much for my eye to take in I guess.
