Is Voice an obligation or an option?

To answer the question of the title of this thread ... "Is voice an obligation or an option", well personally I think it is a no brainer. It should be an option. As long as the voicers respect the rights of non-voicers (by not harassing them for choosing not to use voice) and non-voicers respect voicers (by not demanding the feature be removed from the game), there really shouldn't be a huge debate here.

Most of the time I have voice turned off. But I cruised around the world last night with voice turned on and I only encountered a handful of people with the feature enabled and LOL, I ended up talking to myself most of the night making fun of my voice since it sounds a tad broken up at times. Now I refuse to go into a busy dance club or live SL musicians show with voice enabled since to me the music is way more important than voice. But who knows? Outside of when I know I am going where there will be tons of people and music, I may start cruising the world more with the feature turned on.

Voice should not be feared. But the voicers need to respect the wishes of people who choose not to use voice since there is a million reasons (well maybe not a million), but a lot of valid reasons why people do not want to use the feature.

Makes me wonder what would happen if webcam capability was introduced. Too bad if you don't want to be stalked, if you opt out of webcamming "U MUST B A BOY IRL LOLLLL"

Well I'd love to attend a voice enabled office hours with a Linden. Then we can see the pros and cons with the people who are behind all of this.

I have spoken via voice to a few lindens now.

*shrug* they are people too, it is nice to hear them though.

Wish I was going to the SLCC get to meet some of them and a lot of other ppl too
:(

alas maybe next year

I would like to give voice a try, if only to speak to my best friend in Aussie, sometimes we have so much to say to each other it would be quicker to talk. I don't particularly want to talk to strangers but speaking to her would be nice since it is too expenisve to call each other.

Shame that voice doesn't work for me at all, can't even hear anyone, let alone speak to anyone *shurgs*
In fact trying to get my mic to work on my pc has given me the biggest headache ever.

I wasn't having a dig at them, I'd just like a voice meeting at office hours, which has been suggested at some of the office hours meetings I've been to but hasn't yet happened. It would be a good test of the facility.
