I still cant see that you gain much dishonest traffic by having a moneychair. I see it instead like a tool to get exposure of your place and some life from people that either come and go, or stand and wait for the letter to appear.
Its like a sploder in a club. It is something fun to while dancing and chatting.
The moneychair is another way of making a classified, in my opinion. You just pay the visitor instead of linden lab. Those visitors get to know your place, and also get to know eachother, make friends while waiting. Its not like camping, where people put their avatar and then go afk to do something else, or play tiny empires.

It can be that I am too new inhere, and still havent got the "so what" attitude yet. I feel for the community, and I like places with life. There is too much dead and empty places inhere already, and I guess that soon it will all be botland, if something or someone is not going to stop it.

i remember a club that i was doing a build for..they had this prefab club on the ground and never any traffic..

i remember when we were just sitting in there talking he would make jokes like..
should i put out the sploder to see if any new bots have joined the crew lol
legal sploder by the way..
he used to call it his pig call or something like that..i can't remember.

every one of them looked all ruthed at first but over time some people got original with their bots and set them up in club clothes and skins and even would dance..soon as it paid out we would pay in again to see them come back..
we would say hi to them knowing we would get no response..

the things you do when you are bored lol

then after we were bored would go this other club we knew with people in it and all the same bots would be hanging around the sploder or money ball or whatever it was untill it paid out ..then leave until the next round started up..

Wait a second...you're saying that if you put out a (legal) sploder and load some money into it, there's bots that can somehow "sniff" these out and start showing up to take the money? That's kinda cool, actually....what kind/brand sploder did this friend of yours use? If it's not much, I might wanna try it just to relieve boredom.

that is still not an excuse for these kind of bots to exist at all..these are not traffic bots ..they are lazy ass peoples bots taking advantage..it's one person taking up 40 (or however many bots they have roaming sl)spots in areas that have money chairs or camping chairs..

thats 40 more or less users that cannot get to them..
now add up all the other lazy asses doing it and you have a lot of new people that have more of a right to sit there than one talentless can't get up off their ass and create anything loser with 40 more or less bots picking off new peoples shot at maybe picking up a few lindens to get something they want..

these kind of bots here are reason enough to have a 5 alt limit if nothing else..

i have a new name for these bots..Welfare bots doing nothing and getting paid..
I don't disagree with any of that. It's the "poor owner" thing that I addressed.

i don't remember if it was a sploder or a money ball or what.. but the owner had to put money into it..the people that played didn't have to..they just had to enter their name ..he had a few different thing like that..

but yes when he dropped one and then put money into it and it started a round .the bots would show up like clock work..

It's also possible the maker of the chairs could be running the bots too, we could know where they are and their L$ balance.

i understand and i didn't mean to come of as meaning you did..

i don't feel sorry for people setting up camping chairs for traffic..
i do think though that if they are going to be camped it should be by at least someone that is actually real and not a bot..

camping chairs are what spawned the bots that exploited camping that gave the idea to the owners that hey..these are bots..why am i giving money to bots??I'll just get my own bots and then i don't have to spend a dime now on camping..i can just make a box and do it all myself and be my own traffic..

my company is not going to be based on the need for traffic or camping or anything like that..
i don't really care how someone runs their own business ..if they have bots or not or camping or whatever..

but the bot that goes around sniffing out exploits is a thief bot..
i've had my favorite chair stolen from them my favorite bath set and almost had them swoop in and wreck a land deal between me and one of my friends..

i just get annoyed at lazy ass people botting every exploit they can find while sitting on their ass watching jerry springer eating a greasy bag of chips..they may not be actually doing that but thats the picture they paint in my mind of them..

now see, if I bothered to run a store (or vend through others stores as I've done before) I would happily set out a lucky device, not for traffic, but just as a way of advertising something that may not get as much attention as I think it deserves...

however!

like I said before, it would have some serious limits
1) if it's items, they are no-trans... if people like it they'll tell their friends, and people will buy it. word of mouth and demonstration is great advertising.

2) it will not automatically advance to the next letter or whatever, it'll be timed, period, one give away per letter, then it stops until time expires before moving on.

3) it would keep track of the number of items given away, and stop after a set number over a given time period. I'm not in business to give it all away.

4) if it's giving out cash (something I'd only do as a location owner) in addition to the above, it would ABSOLUTELY include a cap on monies given in a certain time frame. and track whom it was given to (so I could correlate it with impulse buys, to see what people really like and what price ranges they're in)

those things are NOT hard to script generally (although integrating money tracking for impulse buys can be a bit more hairy)

The "poor owner" got what s/he wanted and paid for - traffic - so what's the problem?

Yeah but do 20 bots TP'ing in for 1 minutr equal 10 real users wallking around for 2-5 minutes?
Do they even count for traffic if they are ther less than 1 minute?

You'll have to test that "less than 1 minute" thought. I would think it depends on whether or not they were there as the sample for that minute was taken. Judging by the OP it sounds like they were there for more than a minute and would have counted. Someone else mentioned seeing the same thing happen somewhere and it was all over in about 10 minutes.
