AA blames God for alcoholism. At least in this SL program, you have only to blame yourself.

Good Lord....where did you come up with that one? We blame no one, at least not those of us who understand our problem. I am responsible for my actions and for recovering.

Now, there may be AAs out there who blame God, just as there are cancer patients who blame God and sports stars who injure their knee who blame God. That's a human trait, not a trait of AA.

.

This is entirely irrelevant to the thread, but I miss Farscape every time I see you post. :(

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Yes. We are each responsible for our own actions and our own recovery.

Thank you for your cogent description of Alcoholics Anonymous, Crighton. There is so much misunderstanding about the program in the public, it is refreshing to see it portrayed accurately here. Thank you again.

Yes, and I'm sorry for that. My first post was an answer, somewhat rambling, to the OPs question. Basically, that SL can be used as an additional tool in recovery, and I was using my own case as an example, as well as others in AA. The last two posts were in answer to what I felt was inaccurate information given regarding AA. I can be somewhat protective of something that saved my life, and I knew I was kinda hijacking.

As an additional wandering off course, can I suggest the Farscape DVDs? I'm watching Season Two again...lol. Love that show! :D

And everytime I see you post I want to go pet my kitty. ;)

Just in case there could be any confusion, I'm 100% certain that Ann was not saying that any of the AA posts were anything but on-point; but rather that the Farscape reference introduced in her post was an off-topic aside. :)

I thought Crighton's post were squarely on point and brought a whole new perspective to the thread. I agree with Qie. I think Ann meant her Farscape post was off-topic. This has been a great discussion.

Be aware that the SL portion of this program is only a small part of what this business (Accelerated Recovery, (http://www.iwanttostopnow.com/index.cfm) has in their arsenal.

From: someone
Accelerated Recovery was the first company in the nation to implement the COMBINED Recovery Protocol ™ which combines pharmacology, medical management, focused therapy utilizing SageTalk ™ and wellness management to ensure your success. Confirmed to be the most effective type of treatment for alcohol addiction by one of the largest studies ever conducted by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, Accelerated’s COMBINED Recovery Protocol ™ will enable results not available from institutional recovery programs.

I think SL could be very valuable as part of a multipronged treatment program. As the sole form of therapy, I think it could be valuable in the initial phases. But, as the recovering addict builds skills to help them re-integrate into life, it will be important not to let SL become a crutch. I would hope that Dr. Stone would not have embarked on this study without having a plan to deal with SL's being an addictive form of escapism for some clients.
