The "The Gaul of some people" thread got me thinking about some of the truly wacky moments I have had with customers over my years as a businessman in SL. Just thought it might be entertaining if we all shared someof those and had a laugh. My personal favorite was shortly after my brother put his first house up for sale. He got a truly irate IM from his first customer. Because the door wouldn't open. As he worked through steps to try she got more and more and more pissed. So finally he and I went over there to see if we could fix it. Fully prepared to rez a new house and set it up for her. When we landed we immediately saw the problem. She had positioned the house UPSIDE DOWN. The lintle above the door was blocking it so although it opened and closed she couldnt walk in. We righted the house and properly setup the door and she went on over the years to buy many houses from us. But we never ever forgot the upside down house episode nor was there ever a repeat.

That's funny, I don't have customers but one day I was in a strip club where the audience can't be nude and one of the dancers IMed me to "put my cock away please" which was actually my thumb showing through my coat pocket... I was kinda a bit amused she thought it was my dick.

Someone purchased one of my multi-line display scoreboards and IM'd me to tell me the letters show up weird. I walked them through the usual troubleshooting to no avail, and had them TP me to the device.
Turns out they had stretched the device in Edit, but forgot to check Stretch Textures along with it. All the pieces and parts of letters appearing on the display prims looked so funny that I just replaced it there on the spot. They were good sports and learned about the Stretch Textures checkbox at the same time.

Well....lets see.....mine wasn't actually a goof of any kind, but it's by far the funniest customer request I ever got.... There was one woman who was/is a very loyal custom shape customer and she would IM me every so often with a link to some celebrity or another she wanted done......always woman.....from over seas so noone I ever recognized, but obviously celebs in their country. Anyway......she IM's me one day to say she has another job for me.....and she'll pass me some pics ASAP.......I get the first image from her a bit later......and it's...... BORAT! I almost fell on the floor. The funniest part was the day before she IM'd me, I had been in a shop and noticed they had a green bathing suit the exact same style as the one Borat wore in some of the movie promos. LMAO. Naturally when I did the avatar for her I went and grabbed that suit!!!! It was great fun to do tho......and my customer was happy.

OK, here's the setup. I run a free texture shop and I use a custom script I wrote to save on prims and space (a standard texture cycler with click/double-click/hold the mouse down actions for forward/back/retrieve). Yeah, it take some getting used to, but its pretty fast and easy once you have it down.
So I have bright red arrows pointing to a blue button labeled "help" with a question mark on its face on two walls of the shop which gives you a help notecard when you click, a scrolling sign on the wall explaining how to use the texture scripts, a big yellow sign on the wall near the floor, a giant sign on the floor with circles and arrows explaining the process in five easy steps, mouseover hints on everything in the shop that's not a texture cycler, and flags from half a dozen countries that say "how to get the texture" in their respective languages, and the flags also have mouse-over hints. I get between 60 and 90 visitors each day so there's almost always someone experienced in the shop who can help someone out if they get stuck. Oh, and the first thing people see when the rez in are the two bright red arrows pointing to the help button. Simple prims with a default texture so they load super fast.
I still get IMs every month or two from people who can't figure it out. It just makes me scratch my head.

I told this one recently, but I'll tell it again...
When I used to rent out skyboxes, I'd just rented one to a guy. Then I needed to fly up the column of sky boxes for some reason that I've forgotten. Rather than take the slow journey up, I put my carbon rod on, which causes you to fly incredible fast - so fast that you can sometimes go through walls, or part way through them before the system stops you. So up I went, but I'd taken off at the wrong spot and I came to a sudden halt right underneath the bedroom of the skybox that I'd just rented out. I say underneath, but that's not quite true. My head and shoulders had gone through the floor, AND I was facing the bed, on which the new tenant was vigorously humping his girlfriend.
Fortunately, they were concentrating on themselves so they didn't notice this head and shoulders suddenly come up through the floor at the foot of the bed, and stare at them - and I got out of there PDQ.

This kinda reminds me of a time when I still had the sex animations shop. I went down to the shop to put out a new animation to find a couple having "great fun" on one of the beds IN the shop. Now that in itself was not unusual and I never had a problem with it UNTIL.... The man in question yelled "Hey you pervert we want a little privacy"

I was behind my bar one day and in chat got a message." Does this piano play" I could not see anyone but my radar had someone 4meters from me.I replied that you had to click the sheet music. All of a sudden an av appeared on the stool and started playing. The reason I couldn't see him was he was in front of the bar. Can you picture a 3 foot Scottish hobbit complete with kilt and sporran and these huge horny feet sitting on a stool playing an upright piano. I can still picture his little legs dangling in time with the music. . I should have snapped it but was laughing so much I forgot.

A couple of years back, I created candied apples, and one of them, randomly given from a tray, makes the wearer/gobbler ...erm,..run and be very very sick! And it doesn't stop till you Detach the evil thing Having made the rounds and being passed along from people to play tricks on their unsuspecting newbie pals, I get IM's out of the blue still about these wretched things hah! One day a guy IM's for HELLLPPPPP! How do I make this stop??!! Well, instead of Detaching it..he'd Dropped it..and there it was somewhere on his land merrily animating him away. I laughed so hard anyways, I explained he'd have to find it and Take it into Inventory to get it to leave him alone and he did find the thing finally hehe

My products use the RLV force sit script. So anyway I went to my store to check on my traffic for that day and also my notecard box.
There's this girl in one of the display pieces. Ok she's trying it out to see if she likes it. I'm there for about 10 minutes and finally in local chat I see. "Hello, Miss?".
I greet her ofcourse, so then she goes "Can you help me please?"
me: Yes what's the problem dear?
her: Can you release me please Miss? I clicked on the piece and hit forcesit by mistake and it grabbed me and I've been here for a while already.
I wanted to leave her there but had a good enough laugh and let her free. Oh and only me as the owner can release them, unless they log off so anyone else who went wouldn't be able too.
That was my best moment but only been open a few months so I'm sure I'll have more.

All my customers are simply lovely - including the one who said, "Your English is very hard to understand, where do you come from?"
English "English" is a rare and incomprehensible thing, apparently!
I get asked for some interesting animations at times:
"Can you do a spitting animation?" "I'm a dragon and I want to munch people when they click on my nose."
Then there was the customer who wanted a splits pose made to fit. I asked her height and leg length on the Appearance sliders, and the height was 33, the legs, zero and the arms, 66! - she turned out to be quite the nicest ballet dancing sheep you could ever hope to meet.

LOL! That reminds me of the time I took a commission to make a costume for a dog who was going to star in a series of videos. I went to the Big and Tall store and asked the clerk what they had in a dress shirt, size 19 neck. "Long sleeve or short sleeve?" "Um...doesn't matter" "OK...here are some nice long sleeve shirts. What's his sleeve length?" "Well...er, about 12." "TWELVE INCHES?"

I run Full Perm Sculpties, and I get quite a few IMs and notecards asking if my sculpties are full-perm. Okay, fine. But one day I get an IM from someone who checked one of my sculpty boxes and noticed that it was only Modify enabled. He said "I'm not going to turn you in, but you'd better close your shop before somebody reports you."
I replied that the box was Modify-only, but everything in it was full-perm. I never heard from him again. I got a good laugh.

Sorry to bump an old thread....
05-23-2009 12:36
I was catching up on some older posts & wanted to add one to this. A friend of mine owns a clothing store & one of the items he sells is a man's cardigan/sweater. Inside the box he includes an extra clothing item to allow the wearer to make the cardigan appear loose or baggy if they wish. This is just s plain system default white coloured top, no textures applied, with a deep neckline so as not to intefere with the cardigan when worn underneath it. He recieves an extremely rude & irate IM from a customer who bought this saying the 'top' in the box is faulty & DEMANDING his money back right now. My friend explains that it isn't intended to be worn alone, but under the item of clothing the customer actually paid for, to alter the appearance of it, making it looser looking if he so desired. This explanation not withstanding the customer continued to rant that he had been ripped off, that he wanted the top, he had paid for it & wanted to wear it. Also that he was a DJ & DJd to 'hundreds of people' every night & he was going to tell them all that my friend was a con artist. HE then added my friend's store to his picks with a picture of himself in the offending article of clothing, various vitriolic claims of being ripped off & part of the IM conversation with my friend, but taken out of context & omitting the 30-40 lines of attemtped explanation. The part he left in was my friend finally losing control & laughing his socks off at the guy's stupidity! One AR later, he IMd & said he'd decided 'to be nice' and remove the pick. Have to say he gave us all quite a laugh
