if anyone has a moment to answer this question, i'd be grateful.
when you go to a live music show, what do you base your tips on? what would make you want to tip the musician more?
thanks in advance for all input

I tip more when they talk back to the guests. Nothing fancy, just "I hope everyone is enjoying the show. Will the death avatar please sit down."

Well I don't really do the live music thing all that much, but at the last concert I went to I tipped the musician a few times over the course of the event. Maybe about L$400 - 500 total.

Playing requests or at least trying to play requests gets tips from me. Also the above mentioned stuff about interacting with the crowd.

As a DJ, I'm not "up there" trying my best at anything. I'm usually down on the dance floor dancing with everybody else.
I guess that's a little too interactive though perhaps? Being there and having the tip jar on the dance floor too? I don't seem to get a lot of tips that way. |

All of the above are good responses. I go even further if the Host is doing their job by greeting me upon arrival. And for a 2/hr set approx: $300L, and at times more depending....

if anyone has a moment to answer this question, i'd be grateful. No problem, but you're more likely to find people who have a moment if you don't waste their time with an uninformative subject line and instead used a subject like "Questions about tipping at concerts." Don't make people guess what your post is about before they look at it. when you go to a live music show, what do you base your tips on? what would make you want to tip the musician more? Typically, I don't tip. If I do, it's because it's an actual musical act and not some huckster playing some well-known band's last live concert album with four avs pretending to be the real thing on stage. But that's been rare enough so far I can't recall the last time I tipped or how much I tipped when I did. |

That seems like you just play a CD to a stream... yes.. that i would not tip too... ok.. i give always tips... But oly 100L ... i think... But she is talking about life events... there are ppl that really do something.... ! I go only to Partys where are Life DJ´s... Look on Lunatic, Black Box or !!!!!!FAC!!!!!!..=> GW and Bowyer hit the floor.. i gave them one time 4k in one evening... |

I always tip live musicians more than DJ's; about twice as much. If you're a live musician, I'll tip more if you can actually sing, preferably on key. Actually, I don't think of DJ's as "live music", although they are sometimes billed as such. Usually I'll tip more if the singer is competent and conveys emotion in the performance (vocal emotion, not chat or spammy gestures).
I generally tip, the performer has to be really bad for me to leave without tipping. _____________________

Live music gets good tips from me. Usually between $500L to $1000L (unless they are really bad, then I just leave).
Pseudo-live music (tribute shows) I usually tip $200 or $300, maybe a bit more if I am enjoying the CD. _____________________

I base the tip on the Linden exchange rate to the dollar.
Anything less than 270 Linden is less than a dollar, therefore hardly a tip at all. Anything between 270-1,000 Linden is a realistic tip for musician, DJ or host. _____________________

I know this is going to sound a little pretentious, but that is not my intent.
I recently went to a live (well, there's no real way of knowing that, but that's okay) violinist recital. The fellow played a fantastic suite by the American composer William Grant Still preceded by some interesting music history banter about Still being among the first African-Americans to break into the classical music composition world in the early 20th century, etc. So not only did he introduce me to some great music that was new to me, but also educated me at the same time. I tipped well and with enthusiasm -- but only once so the tip jar wouldn't "whisper" and distract from the rest of the concert. So, it's the banter that does it for me. |

Tipping varies for me. Live artists 1000+lindens if they are doing the style of music i like if not i leave. In clubs DJs 500+ only if they do requests not interested in hearing a stream of songs. Dancers i dont tip often cause they end up getting their gear off ( offer o play them if they will put it on ) Hosts 250+ depending if they are hosting or just using chat spam
