Failed Purchases, how do you tell if it's truth or scam?

Just to confirm that this is a big issue, I bought about L$5000 worth of items the day before yesterday, and after checking transaction history and my inventory, about L$1500 did NOT arrive in my inventory. I was not using First Look, precisely because of the problems I have heard about, and I have searched throughout my inventory, using the find tool and by hand.

There are some serious issues atm with items not arriving after you have bought them, this really needs fixing quite urgently :(

I don't about you guys, but I always.. r/h click a vendor and check the contents tab, to see if there is a transparent prim shrouding the real vendor. If there is, it will only contain a script used to redirect your hard earnt cash.

There are big problems with a lot of UK users with the main viewer in the evenings due to isp restrictions, First Look doesn't have the problem. Why don't they have business using the client which has been publicly advertised?

Way back, there was something called "Focus Beta". recently they renamed this "First Look".. frankly I think they should rename it again to "Beta Client"

There are two versions of the client (viewer, application, program, whatever you call it). the "OFFICIAL" release, and the "we're currently testing this, if you wanna help us out, try it.. we need feedback"

Unfortunately, the "First Look" client is so prominently featured on the downloads page, it seems that most "newbies" are downloading this INSTEAD of the OFFICIAL client. With their first experiences of SL being filtered through unfinished, Beta software.

As a result, Linden Labs gets to feel good about their viewer.. "look thousands of people have downloaded this! and most are using it and not complaining"... Of course they seem to fail to compare this number against the creation dates. So there's thousands of noobs out there.. using a half working testbench client.

The problem comes.. that product developers develop for the OFFICIAL client. That's the only way to do it. The beta client changes every few days. We build, and program, using the established official standards. Using practices that have worked for months or years.. code that is well established in the LSL wiki, etc. Along comes the Beta client, and suddenly it doesn't work.

Issue is.. the noobs think they're using "the latest, best client" so when my product fails.. they come to me, complaining about the product. I find that telling people to log out, download and install the official client, and try again.. solves this "my hud doesn't work" problem 100% of the time. In this case, it's not my product that isn't working.. it's the beta software they're using.

Frankly... I really have a problem with an "Open Beta" process.. particularly in this case.. but I have MORE of a problem with the fact that the new users are being shown the beta client on their first visit to the downloads page. And the term "First Look" makes it look tempting and exciting, with new features... without mentioning to them that it is not considered "STABLE" (a term long used in the software world)

Second Life Client 1.13.3.2 OFFICIAL (stable)
Second Life Client 1.13.3.55672 BETA

While I see that they've made an slight effort to explain the situation to people on the download page.. I don't think it goes far enough, and I suspect it doesn't translate well into other languages. (a lot of my FL using noobs seem to be French or German). A lot of noobs simply don't understand that "the client" can get in the way of everyday issues like "clicking buttons on a HUD" or "interacting with a vendor". I think it should be remanded to a separate page on the website, and that the name should not sound "exciting" with a "buzzword" feel.

A lot of vendors use redirect scripts to pull products from a server.

If you are using a networked vendor and you:
  1. moved the server to another sim
  2. or you took it and set it out again
  3. or the sim your server was on rolled back,
you should check the server ID because it most likely changed. You'll need to change the server id in the vendor setup if this is the case. This means that the vendor is no longer communicating with the server and when someone pays it cannot tell the server to deliver the product.

That's my short 2 cents version :)
Hope it helps

The default attach point was changed from head to right hand quite a few updates back. Whoever talks about "boxes on head" instead of "boxes on hand" isn't a newbie :).

I'm tempted to set a wear position for all my boxes.

Just to have that joy back.. Customer shows up and says "My jetpack doesn't work" and I find him with the box on his face.... soo much more fun.

Though I do wish that there were a llDropObject option, athat would allow us to automatically drop the box when they try to wear it. But at this point, I'm strongly considering writing a smarter unpacking script, taht unpacks automatcally on rezzing the box (or wearing it), and then derezzes or unwears.

A lot of boxes will still attach to the head, simply because they were created before *that* update, and had been worn once (attaching to the head). ;)
Once a box (or anything) has been attached once, it remembers the place.

Of course, anything that has been created recently will default to the hand (or any old box, that no-one has made a mistake with). It almost makes it worth attaching new boxes to the head just once to set the attach point.
