Hey everyone, I have been gone for sometime and came back to "an all new SL" it seems. Can someone please explain to me what this new adult content is and what I'm allowed to do in my mature land and not allowed...
Thanks

Hi, and welcome back!
The short version is that a new rating in addition to 'Mature' and 'PG' has been introduced: 'Adult'. A number of keywords have been put on a black-list (which LL will not make public, and reserve the right to change without notice), and locations advertising anything from that list of keywords will only appear in search if you have checked that you want to see 'Adult' contents - and the locations can only be advertised if the land in question is rated 'Adult'. In order to physically access 'Adult'-rated land, you must either have a) PIU/PIOF (Payment info in use/Payment info on file) *or* b) Have age verified using the Age Verification on the SL website. At this point, it is still quite unclear in which way the rules will be maintained at day-to-day basis. There is an 'interesting' recent thread "Is it legal to have private sex, in one's home? On mature land?" at /327/44/337980/1.html which gives some indication of the current state of affairs. 'Adult'-rated mainland is located on a separate continent 'Zindra', and we are still waiting for LL to start putting the land up for auction. A few pieces of Adult mainland have been/are up for sale at various levels of realism in pricing. Those lots all come from land that have been given as 'free' land-swap to commericial ventures that would be significantly impacted by the changes. No other bodies will get a land-swap for 'free', they will have to purchase land when it becomes available. Private Estates will be subject to the same rules, and the number of 'Adult' rated private Estates is steadily increasing, as LL have sent some warning-emails to estate owners to change their rating as required to comply with the new rules. |

So how can one possibly check what word in one's advertisement is causing the problem? Reportedly the LL list has some ludicrously inappropriate inclusions which no-one could reasonably guess at ... This is like something out of Kafka. |

Adult land in sl is like a suburban myth - its somewhere out there in real but we can never quite find it. When you do finally get to it, you wish you hadn't.

This is like something out of Kafka. Simple. If your ad suddenly drops out of all but the Adult listings, start messing with words until you find the ones that they object to. This may require you to change only one word, or two, three, four, or even two dozen, all at once. Good luck with that. It's a rather sad state of affairs since they have opted to make sure you're not allowed to know why your ad runs afoul of their filtering system. If we didn't have slapt.me then it would be even worse. |

... LL couldn't touch or censor ... ... or could they (if they weren't such numpties)? http://www.slapt.me/wiki/index.php/SL_wiki_word_page_removed am I the only person who thinks this is really funny? ETA: actually I think I misunderstood what went on here. I thought Blondin had made a slapt account and attempted to remove the keywords page from the slapt wiki but accidentally removed the WikiWords page instead. Am I right in now thinking that this is a message from Blondin, posted by the slapt guys to let us know the keywords page on the Second Life wiki has been removed? /me needs sleep ![]() _____________________

This is like something out of Kafka. Actually its not hard to test individual words, just use search with the adult content checkbox off, and try words one at a time in the search box. The ones rated adult will give you a message. As Brie pointed out above, we have already done that for every likely adult word, and listed them on one wiki page for convenience. I last rechecked the entire list a week ago, when the SL website went live. I try to check whenever there is a softare change. The list has changed several times, without any notice. The Kafkaesque part is that your ad might be fine today, and have a banned word tomorrow, and they wont tell you it changed status. Another silly part is that different parts of the SL system filter differently, Search in the viewer works one way, the search.secondlife.com page another, and the maps.secondlife.com yet a third. |
