Good morning, threadies...Amara, those are lovely pictures; it indeed looks as if you had a marvelous night. :)

I am a bit freaked this morning, though

My PC is on all the time (goes into sleep mode after 30 mins of inactivity). Last night I turned off the monitor (as usual) and went to bed.

This morning, I went in, turned on the monitor...and nothing. Pressed the space bar as usual to reactivate..nada. The power button was blinking, so I pressed that, and the pc began to restart.

And then I got the window" We're sorry but Windows did not start successfully" etc.

It's been trying to start for an hour!!

help....(on a laptop right now...)
About the first thing I do with any new computer is to turn off all the power saving options as my experience is that they frequently freeze it up solid, which is particularly a nuisance when you have to remove the battery as well from a laptop to get it to reboot.

Thank you - it really was a fun time all over the grid for me last night :) There are more pics on my photobucket at http://s497.photobucket.com/albums/rr336/Amaranthim_Talon/ The horse ride was amazing!

Re the PC- def no expert here and i am sure some one will come along with better advice but- have u downloaded anything new? Updates, etc? Can u start up Safe-Mode? Is it under warranty that u can get tech support? and finally - if u r comfortable doing it- you can find a Restore point while in Safe Mode and go back that way- assuming it is not some horrible thing that only a techie can help with. Now I will sit back while the people that really know what they are talking about try and help.. /me goes back to playing with prims.

I work for the Busybodies Department. If I were not spending time on the Forums, I would be spending it writing new regulations, or making sure that people were following the ones we have on the books, to the letter. I think the taxpayers would be much better served if they paid me to leave them alone, instead of paying me to harass them.

God bless America.

Thanks :)

Related - I just found out that the illness is stress related. I've had a lot of stressful situations erupt in my life, but this is the only illness I know of that has occurred because of them. Part of stress lifted, so I know realize stress induced illness.

*thinks happy thoughts, trying to distract self into thinking well and stressfree*

whoa, is that what that was? A hello to the thread? Thanks for decoding that for us :) (or maybe just me)

*hugs*

i had a really horrid year from aug-07 thru sept 08. i became VERY ill and lots of things that i've always sort of 'gotten' became the norm (and extreme) - all thanks to stress, especially these migraines that all but kill me now.

GET AWAY from it Lexxi. ESPECIALLY if it is job related. illness caused by stress lingers forever. i'm sorry you are having troubles. i am sending positive vibes and prayers your way. *hugs*

Don't tell anyone, but threatening to charge the indolent kid for board and lodging was the only way we could get him to leave home. We are hoping that one day he'll make something of himself, but for the time being he is still getting involved in fights and can't manage his money terribly well.

ah yes. 22 is a magical age.

If you are still dealing with this:f Push the power button until it shuts itself completely off. Leave it off for a few minutes (3-5 minutes). Then power it on again and see if it fully boots. If not, shut it fully down again, for a minute or two. As soon as the computer starts booting, start tapping F8 and keep it up until you get a startup menu. Depending on your computer setup, you might have an option that says 'last known good configuration'. If so try that, otherwise (or if that one does not work), try Safe Mode.

If you finally get Windows to load, immediately backup/copy to cd/dvd any and all personal files that you do not want to lose. Then perform a regular windows Shutdown, let it sit for a minute or two, and then try a normal startup. If the startup is fine, I suggest (as Pep mentioned), stop the power saving options -- I only use some of these on a laptop and never any on a desktop. The monitor is quite often the power hog of a computer setup, so turning that off each night is the only thing I do.

Wow. If a giant like Google can't make a Virtual world work, it makes you wonder what makes SL stick around so long.
My guess is the User Content Creation combined with an actual viable economy that can be exchanged for RL money. It was the first one that provided that and the only way any other is going to top SL is to offer those same things and then more.

We apparently had a slow night. I see 40 posts per page and this morning I am on the same page as when I went to bed last night.

Good morning everyone. My head cold is better - the nose is still a tad stuffy and runny, but I can at least breath through it now. Of course it should be better with all the drugs, alcohol, and sleep that I tossed at it - I slept for 11 hours. It is 10:30 now and I have only been awake for about 20 minutes, so I am still dumping lots of coffee into my system. Oh well, I'll catch up on the forums while I wait for my brain for finish waking up. I've got to get woke up so that I can get to the RL chores.

My kids are coming over this evening for my daughter's 20th birthday dinner. She requested that we fix fondue, so I get a yummy long dinner.

Have a good day everyone.

@Mo - I'll watch the thread and add whatever I can think of if you are still having problems.

before you play with too much, try this: Power the thing all the way down. Off-off. Unplug in from the wall. Seriously. Count to 30. Plug it back in. Fire it up and see if it behaves normally.

Not until July next year. Don't be so impatient; these things take time to come to fruition.

What he said.

If you still get the error message, then try starting Windows in Safe Mode. Go to the Start manu, select Help and Support, and follow the instructions to Restore your cmputer to an earlier state.

If THAT doesn't work, you might possibly have to clean off your drive and reinstall Windows. I hate doing that...I always forget something, like saving my email address book and bookmarks. I let the Geek do it for me...so I can put the blame on someone ELSE forgetting a step.

Seems the SL Competition just got thinned out:

I wonder how much the top dogs at google read these forums. And if the response to the OS change influenced their decision any. IOW, I wonder if the big G looks at "virtual worlds" as being alot of work for seemingly never happy customers. That's not the way I see it, but I can't help but wonder what their impression was.

Lively was never viable. It was full of bugs (worse than SL!) and was little more than a chatroom with avatars. No building, no economy. No sex.

*throws in the towel*

Thank you so much for all your suggestions. Tried 'em all. No luck. (could not get Windows to load in any mode, whatsover)

Headed to the tech's house now. *sigh*

Thanks again for everyone's input. I'm saving the info, should I need it again.

Thanks :) The stress in this specific instance was not job related, fortunately (though I'm sure the normal level of job-related stress didn't help the issue). It was car related. Went from April 08 until . . .today . . which is November 22 2008 (the stress, not the car, car still works, heh).
