Sorry Qie! I accidently hit the send too early before I was finished. oooooops!
Just imagine the problem of the asset servers trying to determine if a texture key was recieved legally or not? Again, it is not a problem and never has been. Just remember how everyone was screaming that it was the end of business in SL with the arrival of CopyBot. I have been gone for several months but it sure looks like business is thriving.

From: Jesse Barnett Just imagine the problem of the asset servers trying to determine if a texture key was recieved legally or not? Absolutely! Hence my great surprise that, per the OP, some variant of this is being done. I mean... I can *imagine* how to do it, but I think I'd need a dedicated mainframe to keep up with the volume of "haystack" on the off-chance of finding a few "needles." (Sorry... I've really sidetracked this thread. I promise to stfu about it henceforth.) A bit closer to the topic, and responding to CCTV: I agree that camping itself is not a villain in need of immediate vanquishing. But for all kinds of reasons, I think Traffic is a worse-than-worthless metric for ranking Search results, if the real interests of SL commerce were to be optimized. And, I'm afraid, the popularity of camping as a business practice kinda depends on Traffic, so... well, really, no hard feelings about your products at all, but I'd favor a Search metric that's likely to have the effect of making them obsolete.

From: Calveen Kline If someone has figured out a way or has written a script to cheat camping chairs.. my hat's off to them. I have nothing against someone wanting to game their traffic numbers, but let pay through the nose... sorry but what an ignorant thing so say! If you plough through my earlier posts you will find me going insane because X texture store has started using campers after I had clawed my way up that search list ( the good old hard way ) and they shoved me down I wrote to said store pleading for them to not use them explaining I can 'buy' my way up that list just as they can but its not the way to go and at the end of the day we will all end up being in the same order on the list but paying for the privlidge! They refused and so I reluctantly HAD to give in as more & more of my competitors did the same thing...having come from the time way before camping I was proud of hitting the top 5 on that search list and fuming to be shoved down after campers started being popular in SL But its a classic case of if you cant beat them join them and I would like to add of the 12 - 15K traffic only 3 camping devices are left out on 'my' island. If you search for Texture Paradise you will find a traffic of 30,000 daily and no campers and why? because she/he uses camping bots that cant be seen unless you go into the debug menu were you see 17 green dots all her alts of course and she/he has been reported by me and the person who explained how she was doing it and all of her stuff off crap off the net the only customers she gets are noobs who are buying txtrs for the 1st time and see her at the top and assume " oh this MUST be the best store for textures" Of course with age and networking comes word of mouth referals and these same ppl will sooner or later find older and better stores and not go back there but for now shes living off the ignorance of noobs and her deciept of using traffic Bots. So excuse me for having 3 campers and 1 money tree and a monthy 5K building contest ( which costs ppl nothing ) and spondering ASL at 15K a mth and giving them free land and a whole host of other things I do to promote my store and at the same time help noobs out On the subject matter at hand however, she and another ' No Payment On File' noob was banned due to suspected txtr theft using outside software ( you can spot them a mile off if you know what to look for ) and they BOTH came back and were bouncing between the sims edge and no mans land ( the ocean ) for 6 hours! Not replying to IMs or anything NOw I cant think of any reason why someone would want to do that UNLESS they were upto no good. I know enough about the software to know how it works and I wrote to Concierge got no joy they told me to AB them ( great! damage is done by the time they auto delete the report and send their obligatory auto response back ) and then eventually someone said to reset the sim so I did and they went THe first time I ejected the 'camping ' girl she was stood in reception in one spot not doing anything at all. We IMd her and spoke to her and got no reply and she had been there a long time so I ejected her She came straight back but had changed her clothes an hair and got onto the camper. As I watched it payherout 52L ( in less than 2 mins? ) THEN I banned her and she STILL didnt reply to my IMs and she came back again! only this time couldnt get in so as I say was just bouncing around the corner of the islands boundries her and another shift looking noob I banned earlier for similar behavior. End result? I have to refuse all no payments on file until we get the store more secure by a few changes. Its sad for the honest no payments on file but its ALWAYS these accts that cause problems as their alts who use false RL details and do wtf they want as no one can touch them not even in RL SL was doing just fine b4 LL started the no payment on file crap...its gone downhill big time since then with theft BIB stores and general griefing

From: CCTV Giant Ok so the best way to make money in SL is to not sign into SL. In fact the best version of SL would be to set your desk facing your front window and have a keyboard and mouse. When you click on something nothing happens, its really pretty out there, and you use no electricity. These debates aggravate me because of the reduction to the ridiculous. Well it takes so many pennies to run this or that offsetting your camping expenditures by negative 18%. Give me a break. ROFL

From: katykiwi Moonflower Lilly,
If you know a way to detect this that works then please state it here so others can benefit. Also if you do have a method then I am not sure why I see your textures out there selling for full perms....I just saw a prim full of them selling for 7 linden at one of those selling freebie and BIB places that are all over SL now, and they list you as the creator.
Which is it, can texture swiping be detected or not? hmm? if it shows me as creator then they havent used the software have they? Oh and thanks for telling me BTW would of been nice to of been informed in a 'concerned' manner as aposed to using it as some kind of argument. There are ways to spot them and I would be a FOOL to write here how where when why wouldnt I? If you want to send me a LM to the store who selling my txtrs ( obviously bought by someone and handed to another 95% of resellers dont buy the txtrs they dont even know who TRU is they either bought them from another person or were handed a load which is why we ask ppl not to hand out txrs to friends as they always end up in the wrong hands sooner or later ) We have a copyright dept who are pro actively visting BIB stores to warn them about the legalities of selling anothers art work and are also issuing take down notices to those stores that already have ours and other ppls wor for sale. We get a lot of help from loyal customers who will send us LMs to these stores but as I say 95% of the time the store owners dont know what copyright is they assume full perms means " yeehaaa! I can resell " Its a major eductaion issue I mean I knew squat about copyright and IP when I was new and did similar things in a bid to make a littl L$ as like most noobs saw SL as a 'game' made by the BIG GAME CO wasnt till I realised the content was made by real ppl that it hit me. And if I was to share any info I had on detecting this software I am much less likley to do it when its demanded in the tone you have written... diplomacy isnt a strong point Im guessing? Well not to worry Im opinionated and have a short fuse so none of us are perfect I hate forums for this kinda of thing My initial post was asking for help and all of a sudden Im being attacked! lol Nothing I have said does any harm or hurts anybody. Thanks for the ' on topic' replies Im not spending my waking hours arguing in forums for the Love of God! I have a life! ( well sorta lol ) Look forward to that LM - we pay L$500 for LMs to stores selling stolen txtrs BTW

From: CCTV Giant Camping like everything else in this game is a strategy. Have you ever considered that smart campers might utilize 5-6 alts and net about 2000L per day while maintaining a business in SL also? Sure. Have you ever considered that not every camper does that? Or that very few if any new players do that which is what my post was addressing? From: CCTV Giant Have you considered that perhaps some of these campers might be offsetting their tier monthly and are acquiring larger lots of land and therefore dumping lindens and content back into the community? Have you ever considered that these same new players, and campers in general that are not willing to spend their real life money on lindens are not going to pay for estate land let alone pay for an account so they can purchase real land, which makes your statement irrelevant? From: CCTV Giant The last computer I built has been on for 4 years and most of my friends in the tech community leave their's on as well so the electricity argument falls on deft ears. I did not know ears could be deft. So every camper is from the tech community and leaves their computer on all the time. Are you psychic or do you simply assume that everyone does as you do? From: CCTV Giant Whether you like it or not is one thing. I could care less. Again a meritless assumption on your part. From: CCTV Giant But don't insult our intelligence by making an arguments about how much it costs to run a computer. I'm sorry your intelligence is so easily insulted. Your arrogance seems to be well intact though as you launched your little tirade against me arguing on behalf of professional campers and implying a broad sweeping unfounded assumption as to the how and why people in general camp in Second Life. From: CCTV Giant My name is CC, I am the Sofa King, and yes I build camping supplies. Ah yes and now we see what spawned this over the top offpoint rant. Feel better now?

From: Chris Norse Buying $5 worth of Lindens will get you 1250, as I type this. That is 2.5 cents per Linden. At 12 Lindens an hour camping, that is .30 worth in real money an hour. Going on the high end say my computer and monitor burn 330 watts an hour.
I pay 5.7 cents a KWh. So my cost to run my computer for one hour will cost me a little less than .02. So I would .28 cents an hour camping. Dividing 1250 by 500 gives the exchange rate for Lindens per cent, i.e 2.5 Lindens for each cent. If you want to get the cents per Linden ratio you have to divide 500 by 1250 which comes out to 4/10 of a cent for each Linden. So in your scenario at 12 Lindens per hour camping, that is 4.8 cents in real money an hour. Minus 1.88 cents for the power in your scenario that it is 2.92 cents an hour camping. I did not realize there were places in the U.S. where KWh were that cheap but in most parts of the U.S. KWh do not come that cheap and in some places it costs over 15 cents a KWh which would result in a net loss over an hour of camping. I have also seen camping areas or devices which pay as little as 6 lindens an hour and there are plenty of campers using them so even if they live in area where electricity is cheap as yours those people are still making almost nothing if they are just camping with one avatar.

They will be the ONLY TRU textures you will be buying as yoru now banned but of course this wont bother you as your whole attitude is F*cked up. Your not better THAN a thief by supporting them AND doing so with pride by coming here and announcing it in a ' F**k you! I buy cheap because I AM cheap" Oh charming you own Gypsy Moon too! Ive just checked out your profile youve been in SL longer than me! And your attitude is " GIVE ME THE KNOWLDEGE TO PROTECT THEFT FROM MY TEXTURES !! " but in the same breath " SCREW YOU I BOUGHT A LOAD OF YOUR BOOTLEG TEXTURES AND AM PROUD OF IT AND GO POLICE YOUR OWN THEFT" ANd BTW I 'meant' Thanks for telling me WAAAY before this thread, an honset upstanding resident wouldnt of bought them txtrs and would be informing the creator WHO ever it was dont make this thread an excuse for being cheap...your lack of ethics was evident way before you posted here. I must say , pure class. Round of applause for this lady. Im willing to bet my house your RL home is filled with copied DVDs and software too. I wouldnt surprise me if this display of poor ethics came from a noob but from someone whos been in SL for 5 yrs and is a prolific sim owner...its disgusting. tatty bye.

From: Broccoli Curry It's been said many times before... but if you can afford a $1000 computer and $50 a month for a broadband connection, then you can certainly afford to drop $5 into SL to buy some 'play money Not necessarily, there's plenty of people in SL who are between jobs or who are unable to seek employment for one reason or another. Maybe they can spare a bit here and there, but yeah, there's indeed people in the game who can only just afford it. You can connect with less than a $1000 PC, you can use the internet connection for other things, etc. And there's far more people who just feel odd about buying virtual cash before they've got properly immersed in the game. I'm fairly sure a lot of people wouldn't still be here if it hadn't been for camping and money trees back when they started.

No need to ban anyone. I don't think you need to worry about katykiwi and a multitude of other people showing up at your store now. People, especially business people really need to think before hitting the send button here in the forums. Vitriol attracts no customers.

People, especially business people really need to think before hitting the send button here in the forums. Vitriol attracts no customers. well fortunatly. ppl buy from TRU because of the work we create NOT because they like the artist personally As you can see I am not a forum lover by the amount of posts Ive made in the 4 yrs of being at SL but I was once advised by an older texture store owner not to form or display an opinion in the forums for what ever you say someone will disagree and this is bad for business. Well, I think putting $$ and business before who I am and my opinions makes me a far uglier person. I like making a living but I like what I do and who I am more. Putting greed before anything isnt particular a nice trait. I will not be verbally muted from showing my anger at someones lack of ethics and gloating about buying stolen work with a ' better in my pocket than yours attitude' You know the expression ' walk a mile in my shoes? ' well, imagine of for example you made skins, or clothing and someone publicly came to the forums and replied to one of your threads ( which BTW started off totally unrelated to this particular topic ) boasting how they had " bought a load of your skins for L$3 " how would YOU feel? WOuld you invite them over for virtual tea & crumpets and chat about the weather? No I think anyone in that position would demonstrate 'some' level of bitterness. Being angry and expressin my anger at the theft of my work is a natural ADULT reacation. I'm not the guilty here and I'm kinda wondering if you came here as a 'friends support' for the person in question. A common practise " oh look at this thread! what this woman has said about me !" I was wondering when the band wagon would turn up. Being a business person doesnt make me unhuman and being human means unfortualy I swear, show anger and have opinions. Thats me.

I think that's a little bit unfair. I camped a bit at the start, I wanted to get the feel of the place before putting money (yes even a small amount of money) into it. I joined in July this year, am currently renting an apartment but am considering upgrading to a premium account this month, I want to buy some land. If I hadn't been able to camp to make a few hundred lindens in the first week, I'd have walked away. My PC is on pretty much 24/7 anyway, so it was no extra cost in electricity. You read advice here all the time about trying out demos first before buying (for new skin for example), well the same principle applies to SL as a whole. I don't think you really want to buy land, create things, put money back into SL etc until you've seen what it's all about. I think very carefully about putting anything on my credit card, but took the plunge and bought some lindens after a couple of weeks. My point (I think ) is that I think camping can help people get a foothold on the world, and until there's another viable alternative it would be a shame if it went altogether. Of course, if the Lindens were to give everyone who signs up a little spending money, that would get round it. But I shouldn't think that's very likely.

Severe Camping Theft
09-19-2007 06:08
I am hearing there is some sort of new device, that's hear-say. What isn't hear-say is that somebody cleaned me out last night, over 15,000L in under 20 minutes. Using his real avie, oddly. Over 2 years old and somehow friends of mine know this guy. So I stripped my land of all it's rights, deleted my chairs, which were BTW anti-idle, anti-bot, and from what I understood quality camping chairs. And why do I even have camping anyway, not so much for traffic, I own a club and wanted to give nubies a chance to hang out and make some extra cash.
More on the hear-say, there are new devices to reverse engineer camping chairs as well as vending machines to steal cash as well as objects. The only advice I can think of to give is to strip your land and use 'prize campers'. As for the objects being stolen, you can build using a 'copyright script' as long as you use no modify you can lock your UUID into a build and if somebody with another UUID makes a copy it will self destruct. That is until somebody reverse engineers that script as well and then there really is no protection.

i could be totally wrong here, but perhaps the sollution lies in using chairs with llGetUnixTime time-checks , instead of relying on a lltimerevent ? just a guess ¿

one more time...

K I was just posting to make you all aware of some sort of new machine which does in fact reverse engineer camping chairs. But this debate on texture theft is one of the most ridiculous side-line conversations I have read in, well probably forever. K I am a professional graphic artist, and I do BUY a tonne of textures from Textures R Us, and TRU textures are one of my faves. I proudly have some 6000+ textures in my inventory and do a lot of high end building and SIM development. I also have made several, I would estimate hundred textures by hand for SL through the years for custom builds. That said.
Until you sit and cut an alpha mask on a texture or render a realistic image in Photoshop you have absolutely no idea how many man hours that really takes. A shop such as Textures R Us, or LilyBeth's work represents thousands of man hours by talented professional artists. It is a real shame that this conversation is even happening, to do a screen capture and turn around and sell these sort of images or have a bot of some sort steal them is true theft of intellectual information. Of course Linden Labs won't do anything to prevent this and dodge that bullet with their TOS. But this is a true disgrace.

It's insane that someone as respected as Lillybeth can come here and ask a simple question and get flamed for it. I shop TRU almost 95% of the time when I'm shopping for textures. TRU is the best in my opinion, and you certain people making the horrible comments about how they can just go buy TRU textures for 3L or whatever the hell...you people are a big part what is wrong with SL, and one of the many reasons that people don't mind stealing textures in the first place, do the math! People wouldn't resale textures if people didn't buy them! To the original post, I hadn't heard about anything to scam camping, but it doesn't seem far fetched. I would definately keep an eye on it. It would be completely upsetting to somehow lose all your money in world to some greedy campers.
