A request of all the entertainers out there.

Please stop sending uninvited teleport requests to event or venues you might be working. I'm talking about one specific incident that happened a few minutes ago but it's something that has nearly happened numerous times.....from more than just one entertainer.
One of my favorite things to do in SL is make clothes..........flexi prim clothes is about at the top of my list. I was in the process of building what I would consider a unique skirt using a very wildly distorted torus for the waist band (I hate glitch pants so this is a skirt that does not require those). While doing the click drag to copy my panels to encircle my waist I got an uninvited teleport request from a fairly popular DJ in SL.......it was sent from his friends list because I quit his group a few weeks ago for all the group notices and group IM"s I got constantly. I happen to use the camera controls to manuvere around my avatar when making my skirts and that TP request popped up at the exact same time I wanted to change my camera angle...........I wound up TPing to where ever it was that the DJ was working. Fully naked and bald!!! Only thing I could do to get out fast was to quit SL...........at least that is the first thing I thought of ( suppose I could have TP'd back home but hitting the red "X" was easier.
Needless to say I got pissed. So, please, all you entertainers ask before sending a TP to someone. I know part of your job is to fill a club or venue up with people.......but just sending out TP's to everyone on your friends list is not the way to do it. IM first.
And FYI.....my skirt is safe. I was on a pose stand so all I have to do is jump back on and pick up where I left off. That's not the point. Just the rudness of thinking that soneone will be so happy to drop whatever they are doing to come to your location........to make you money.
Rant over.

Yeah I agree, If someone is online, leave them alone becuase they are probably busy. Only send out teleports if you are talking to the person and it seems ok to do so.
I have had some people offer a teleport to me. Then five minutes later IM me with "hi".

I had a friend who offered a TP to every person on her friends list, to every event at the club she was a dancer at. She's still a friend, but no longer on my friends list. It got fricking annoying. It was a VERY active club, and I got probably around 5-7 offers every day from her.

I don't really understand the mentality behind it. Becuase most of the people that do this, if you politely ask them to stop, they will either act like you are being rude, or just keep sending them and ignore your request.

A simple IM asking if I was busy before the TP invite is all I ask.
I removed the person in question from my friends list......though I really did not want to resort to that. But I know the club he plays at on Weds and Thurs........I'll still go and tip as I usually do. Hope he understands.

When people offer friends card to me, i tell them thanks, and i will remove in a short time, because friends list takes away my freedom and privacy. so far, I have not had a negative response. I am NOT in SL to have a job manageing social lists.

It's not just entertainment venues either...it's anyone who thinks what they are doing is way better than whatever someone else is doing. Without asking.
My partner used to get blind tp offers by the same person to a well-known rp sim. No IM prior to see if he was interested, no comment in the tp offer of where the tp was to or what was happening there. And this person was apparently sending this out to her entire friends list.
He ended up defriending her and leaving the group.

Unannounced TP's are a fast-track to my mute list. I'll have a small conversation before I tp anyone anywhere. "What're you up to? "Hey, want to see ____?" "I'm dancing at _____, want to join me?"

I don't like it either, and I usually remove whoever is doing it. A lot of it is pressure from clubs tho, too. I danced at a club one night where all the dancers where being constantly told to tp in their friends. I refuse to do that, I don't like it when people do it to me. We were being given a quota...to tp in 3 people each. When finally asked directly why I wasn't tping anyone in, I just said I didn't have any friends I quit there after one night lol

Rant over. OMG yes, this happens to me too, and I do not have the heart to tell them do not send me a TP unless you ask me first. I am going to have to though, it keeps getting worse and worse I will tell them to please do not send me a TP, without first IM'ing me, and THEN if I say YES send me the TP, if I do not respond, do not send me the TP if you are sending TP's out to your friends en masse, then remove me from the friends list, we can still be friends, we have the calling cards, but I really do not need the teleport pop up as though I have nothing better to do than just sit there would it be rude to tell a friend that?

Yup, that pisses me off too. I had a 'friend' that used to do that constantly because he was a host and always doing contests.....I finally took him off my friends list and he contacted months later whining about why we were't friends any more. I told him.....we were never friends, all I was to you was a vote. He tried repeatedly to add me back to his friends list......some people are just painfully clueless. Now I have another friend that likes to do that.....he and his partner opened a club a while back and every time I'm on line I'll get a tp invite. I'm 'this' close to eliminating him from my friends list too...just haven't got around to it. But I can't tell you how many times I'll be in the middle of editing something or looking thru inventory and suddenly that frickin TP box pops up. I'd like to take it and fling across the grid and knock the sender on his little avatar ass!

The rudeness of unwelcomed teleport requests aside, wouldn't this be a good scenario for going into busy mode?

I have a friend who constantly sends conference IMs, to everyone that shows online on her friend list, about whatever is happening at the club she works at. Sometimes she sends TPs to all those people as well.
I just turned off the "can see me online" check box on my friend list. Problem solved.
If I was that interested in the events at that club I'd join the club group for announcements. I'm not and I haven't.
And, yes, we are still friends and she has never questioned why I don't show online in her list.

Had someone on my contacts list who sent me a blind TP. No Hi, no nothing. I ignored it. Got an IM that baldy demanded "Where are you?" I sent back "I'm busy". I got deleted from their list. An excellent result I thought =)

would it be rude to tell a friend that? The way I see it..........not nearly as rude as sending an unannounced TP request.

From: Zaphod Kotobide The rudeness of unwelcomed teleport requests aside, wouldn't this be a good scenario for going into busy mode? It probably would be. However, I do not mind getting IM's if I'm making something. I can see it flash or see the "IM recieved" message and answer when I get to a point where it's convenient to read and/or answer. I'm not anti social and seldom so busy I don't have time to chat a little.........but if I am I'll tell you so. Politely. The problem is that my camera controls are in the upper right hand corner of my UI almost exactly where a TP request pops up. I can move it, of course.........but I've had it there for years now and I can move my camera angle without thinking. I don't want to move it, I should not have to move it. I don't hide from friends on my list either..........I happen to think that's rude too. The answer is simple.........just IM first. Find out if I might want your TP before you assume I do. Sometimes group notices get in the way but if I click it by accident I don't suddenly find myself being TP'd to some unknown location.

I do not use busy, as I would like to receive anything sent to me, such as notecards requesting help and yes I do find the unasked for TP's very rude and annoying

I hate that to and as a DJ I would Never do it to some one else, IM yes, send a SLURL certainly, but never send TPs uninvited. Very annoying. Have kick associates from my friends list for that, and refuse to join there groups. Really not good form of entertainers if you ask me.

I have a simple solution ... I have a group that my friends can join. If they want to know when I'm hosting an event, they can join my group. Then, all I have to do is send out a group notice about the event, with the LM attached. They can read the notice and choose to join me, or not.
I don't have time to start sending out IM's or TP requests to everyone on my list. You can opt in / out of the group at any time.

I have friends that are DJs and musicians and artists and when they are doing an event they send invitations exactly as you stated. I get the sense that some people are maxed out on groups though. In a certain underground SL industry this is often the case because everyone is a member of everyone's group because it is kind of like a business network so in that particular situation I am more forgiving.

Its probebly a mass tp. Someone selects 20 people, which you can only select at one time, then sends a tp request.
I have never heard of a tp that forces someone to come.
I dj and I do the massive tp, but if anyone says that they dont want the requests, I make sure I dont send it out to those people.
Only a few have said to not have the requests, those I ask first. Other wise I send it out and wait for a response.

And I'm sure that is pretty much what happened to me the other day.......which prompted my thread. A group notice can sometimes be inconvenient but you are not likely to accidently TP while doing something else like I did. It's rude, inconsiderate and just a little more than bold on your part. As you can see, I'm not the only one. You might reconsider your mass TP requests. I know I won't be friending you anyway.
