Double your time estimates. Then when you finish early you look like a miracle worker.

And if it ends up taking twice as long as you thought, no harm done.

Yes true but when will LL learn that overestimating and then delivering before the projected time makes them look good whereas underestimating makes them look incompetent!

Very true - I work in the 'service' field as well, and I learned very quickly in my early years to estimate long and give good news all the time to my customer! :D

It is past 2:30pm PST and it is still OFFLINE. How much longer is it going to be???

It is now 10:44pm UK (2:44pm PST) and I would now have been camping for finances and clothes in Second Life.

I hope that it gets back within the 15 minutes

I wonder how much further it will take the Lindens' over in California to get the service back to "online".

Will it be 3pm; 3:15pm or 3:30pm PST???

Somebody help me out, please????

Second Life appears to be Online on my screen...

After a slow and agonizing wait... the screen blanks out (goes to a whitewash) and... Logs me in

IT'S BACK EVERYONE!!!

Except that in this case I think they just really messed up. I don't think it's a case of them running behind. I think they're trying to figure out how to fix it. I won't pretend to know what's involved in what they're doing - but lets say they rebuilt some RAID array to distribute it across new drives or what not. Then something went wrong and they had to undo that. That's pretty complex and sometimes impossible if you don't have enough spare drives to make a backup of the original configuration. Rebuilding it all from tape would take forever.
