From: Pserendipity Daniels Any business that can make a reasonable claim to BE a business can register for VAT whatever its turnover.
Oh and you're incorrect on this point by the way. If all the goods and services you supply are exempt from VAT you cannot register for VAT.

The VAT is amazing in its complexity.
What is funny is that the original intent was to simplify taxes on goods and services.
Compared to the VAT a sales tax is incredibly straightforward.

If you think this thread is intense you should have followed the argument about whether "Jaffa Cakes" were cakes or biscuits, as VAT treatment of the two categories differed! Pep (Biscuit man myself)

From: 2k Suisei What the hell is "Pep"? Pep (and if you don't stop typing Pep at the end of your messages I'm going to kill you!!) Another apology required in this thread? I am just being polite and putting my name at the end of my posting. If this is inappropriate then I apologise and shall desist immediately. I am known as Pep inworld because Pserendipity is long and difficult to type and I don't want anyone's digital sex organs to get worn out too quickly. Pep (Is 2k a more familiar version of "two thousand and forty eight"?)

Pep (Biscuit man myself) Nah this thread isn't intense. Just the VAT is complicated. I should have worn my "I survived the Spy-Bot thread" T shirt.

Pep (Maybe I should set up a VAT advisory business within SL?) No I'm not. If your business is an exempt business you cannot register for VAT, you were claiming any business could register for VAT, incorrect information.

From: Ciaran Laval If your business is an exempt business you cannot register for VAT . . .snip Wrong again. One example of an exempt business that can register. "if you make supplies of finance or insurance services or of investment gold to customers in countries outside the European Community, you may register on a voluntary basis, in order to claim back any input tax you have paid in respect of these specified supplies. You are also able to recover input tax where your supply consists of insurance and finance services (including intermediary services) that are directly linked to the export of goods from within the EC to outside the EC, regardless of where the recipient of the supply is established." Pep (Exceptions to exceptions . . . )

Pep (Exceptions to exceptions . . . ) And the first line of that piece you quoted was? The missing sentence?

I see the mighty pep, the seeker of truth and justice has refused my challenge to provide the first sentence for the text he/she quoted, so I'll do it for them:
"If all your supplies are exempt, you will not be able to register for VAT"
Unsurprisingly the king of the snip doesn't want this fact to be known.

Erm, shouldn't they fix the forums before inviting more people to come look at them like this?
