Ive seen a store (might be the same one Vanya) that has exactly the same name as a store i have visited and bought stuff from in Los Angeles. Its a furniture store, and the stuff in SL very closely resembles the stuff i have seen irl at their "sister" store. It is likely that they are NOT affiliated because this isnt a large company like American Apparel where they have the time and monetary resources to be putting any gung-ho effort into a virtual world. It just seems that the SL avatar who created the store lacks creativity, and wants to make a quick buck. I think if anyone was serious about there store and the products they wish to sell they ought to do a internet search for the name and make sure it isnt taken already.
Do you think if you see something like this 'in world" you should contact the store owner and let them know what they are doing is illegal?

From: Jezebella Desmoulins "Look... me and the McDonald's people got this little misunderstanding. See, they're McDonald's... I'm McDowell's. They got the Golden Arches, mine is the Golden Arcs. They got the Big Mac, I got the Big Mick. We both got two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions, but their buns have sesame seeds. My buns have no seeds." The difference is pretty clear to me. I don't know why you are having a problem with them. Besides, I prefer my buns without seeds.

I totally searched the names I was going to give my stores in SL on google before I actually commited to them in-world. None showed up...so I am in the clear. I really think more business owners should do this, just like someone said "not to step on anyones toes"...
I fully understand the implications of so&so creating an in-world script writing/gadget store called "Microsoft"...vs. someone making an in-world store that sells fluffy toyes for tinies with the same name.
I havent heard of any examples of someone in the real world finding out that their name is being used in SL to sell the same type of product...how would they know?!?!?

From: Katie Singh If, on the other hand, there turns out to be a national chain of tee shirt shops named Katie's, they are perfectly within their rights to ask me to cease and desist using the name. Katie... don't come to australia www.katies.com.au
