The more outrage there is in there direction the faster they fix it.

Is discrimination against the transgendered legal in California?

I would ask that people Twitter and Plurk this as well with a link back to the JIRA so that the wider public is made aware of it, maybe then public opinion will help persuade LL to change it.

I notice that someone from Amnesty International-E has sent out a notecard on this to their fairly substantial membership. I will be passing that on to the membership of various feminist groups in-world as well.

I fully agree with demanding Linden Lab to remove this wording as soon as possible. They are discriminating against 1 particular group by leaving the text the way it is.

I work with a group of people that over the last few years organized a gay pride in Second life, Called Second Pride . And we have spend a lot of cash renting land from Linden Lab to hold the events.

Linden Lab should know better then to leave this here !

A few days?!

A few days is amazingly quick for LL.

Gang, I think they need a couple days to sort this out. It's a company so most stuff doesn't happen overnight and requires approvals, etc. I think getting this assigned to someone in one day is pretty fantastic. Let's not do anything drastic until they have their few days to respond, at least.

Thanks to everyone getting the word out. I honestly had never read the disclaimer before or I mighta thought twice about shopping on Xstreet!

hey folks, let's take a quick breather...

the lab has a long history of supporting the transgender community. in fact, a number of lindens (like myself) publicly identify trans.

some might remember that earlier this year we had a similar event when the adults only filtering system inappropriately flagged some terms related to gender expression as being adult content.

following the discussion that came from that, we identified a process for handling inappropriate messages or filtering terms on our system. we are currently working through this process, which involves discussions with representatives from the SL community.

our process is taking longer than we would like, and clearly the delays might be sending the wrong message to the community. so i wanted to drop into the discussion and tell everyone that we DEFINITELY take this issue seriously. Linden Lab strongly values the transgender community and we want to make this right. but we want to make sure we understand how this verbiage made it to one of our production systems, and we want to make sure the replacement verbiage conveys the appropriate message.

in any event, let's please stay cordial while we're resolving the issue. i hope to come back soon with more detailed information.

Seems like a lot of people are more than happy to jump on the blame Linden bandwagon. It seems they assume that Linden has done something wrong here with that verbiage. Has anyone stopped to consider that there may be laws that force them to word things certain ways? As has been mentioned in other posts her and on XStreet, this verbiage is being used in a lot of places, with all sorts of adult sites. There has to be an underlying reason. If it is discrimination, then it needs to be taken to the lawmakers to change it on a national level, because there is a strong possibility that they may not be legally allowed to change the verbiage. Give Linden a chance to talk to its lawyers and determine where the legality of the issue is. They did say they are looking into the issue. If they can remove it, legally, they probably will.
