shape and cloths issue

Hi all, I am having problems with changing cloths. When I log into SL my cloths inventory does not download. My avi looks like a badly dress newbie. Everytime I try to change cloths I get message saying "can not change until cloths and shape have downloaded. The only thing I see that is different is my Bandwidth meter is very low compared to other times. Any ideas?

Try logging in to a different sim and see if that helps. Some sims seem to be having issues.

Also try the usual ritual. Clear cache, reboot computer, re-log.

This happened to me recently, for some reason I got stuck with that message.

Not sure if it will for you, but here's what worked for me: I wrote down the name of my shape and skin.

Then I went into the Client menu, Character tab and clicked "test female". It's scary . This chances you into a basic shape, skin etc.

I then slowly but surely began wearing my own shape, skin, etc. One at a time and waiting for each to load before adding the next item. Eventually I looked like my usual self again.

No guarantees it will work, but it won't hurt to try I guess.

Might as well try resetting your modem and router, or turning them off and back on.

First, get a really big hammer....

Then log out, clear your cache, reboot the system, scan for mal-ware, and log back in. Go to the map, find a sim with no green dots, and try to change appearance.

So far I've not had to resort to the hammer.

sorry for being dumb but where is the the client menu and character tab. That hammer is sounding better and better.

If nothing helps, file a support ticket and start to pray >_<
You can activate the "client" menu by pressing ctrl+alt+shift+d.

to top it off I can't even transport anywhere and I did send a support ticket. They told me to clear cache but that didnt help.

Reopen the ticket and continue bugging them. Or better, create an alt, get the Lindens in-world office hours and bug them directly, heh

I must be blind but I do not see the client menu all I see is file,edit,view,world,tools etc and can not find character tab????

It might be a coincidence but when I've found that I cannot change clothes or skins in the past I've done an inventory search to force the servers to "resend" to my client. Type in "worn" in your inventory search field and see if that helps. And be prepared for a very slow search.

You can speed up inventory downloads after a cache clear by first looking for "a", if the inventory download stalls, search for "b" and so on.

Add: and if you do that 500m up in the sky in an empty sim it goes faster as well.

its like once I log in my inventory takes a long time to load. Question: how much stuff should you have in your inventory??

oh dear........ you may want to head for an empty sim and try doing it up in the sky.
Less lag, greater chance of success.

ETA: one of my picks in my profile is to my garden hangout, it has a dressing room as well.
Feel free to try there, the sim is pretty empty and not laggy at the moment.

CTRL+ALT+D or on some machines CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+D will display the Client menu. It'll be at the top of your screen, in the row of primary menu items (File, Edit, View, etc.)

While you're there, you may as well check Disable Camera Constraints too. You'll be able to mover your camera much farther.

it is getting real annoying. I have to wait forever for my stuff to load and my shape. SL ticket did not help at all

Log out, log in at Sargasso. It's a Linden-owned void sim, nothing on it but water and some trees. It will log you in under the water, but your shape and inventory should load okay. If this doesn't work, uninstall and reinstall the client (I suggest installing the Release Candidate because it clears your cache and seems to run better on some machines, has the latest bug updates.).

Also, go to Start<My Computer<DriveC:<Documents and Settings<your name)<Application Data and delete the folder titled "Second Life". A clear cache does not always delete this file, so you have to do it manually. Then empty your recycle bin, and try logging in at Sargasso again.
