Hi All!
This morning a resident engaged me in some interesting discussion about the economy and factors that may influence it. As a result of the discussion I am curious to know:
If residents have a preference for In world shopping vs Xstreet and and vice-versa? If so Why?
Do you think that either makes you shop more and spend more/less?
Why would a seller do well in world but not on Xstreet and vice-versa?
What would you rather buy in world vs on Xstreet?
What do you think the future will be for purely in world sellers with Xstreet being an active hub of Linden $ exchange?
Please answer the poll or if you can spare a couple minutes, mention what you would rather buy inworld vs Xstreet.
Thanks! Pip

I used to do more shopping on XStreet than I did inworld, because I could get into XStreet from work. It's a lot faster than tp'ing from one store to another and waiting in each for everything to rez. I used XStreet a lot for comparisons, and sometimes would make a list of slurls to visit when I got inworld that evening. The two shopping methods complemented each other perfectly for me. However, I haven't gone there much since the changeover. I find the blog-style pages difficult to look at. From: Pip Edman What do you think the future will be for purely in world sellers with Xstreet being an active hub of Linden $ exchange?
I don't understand this question. I don't think that XStreet has an advantage there, since you can buy Lindens inworld at any moment. I don't think I can answer your other questions.

Strictly inworld. I am not interested in using xstreet.

I use XStreet less these days, too. Partly the new format, but also there is just SO much poor quality stuff clogging up the place.
Nevertheless, I still like the IDEA of being able to quickly search and comparison shop on a website like XStreet. I prefer to see the actual item in world before I buy, however.

I tend to search for what I want on xstreet and then go to the store to pick it up/look around some more.
I wish there was a function that let you not view items from specific sellers though. If I search for something and have to go through umpteen pages of stuff (one product in all colors and variations for instance) from a seller I have already decided I have no interest in, I get annoyed and can't be bothered. A "hide views from this merchant"-button would be handy.

Something like Google's "In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the 101 already displayed. If you like, you can repeat the search with the omitted results included." would be nice.
Or "Show only [3] result(s) for each merchant".

i like shopping in world much more than xstreet....but i also do some research on xstreet at times. i dont often purchase anything on xstreet unless i have seen it in world first and then it is just to use the lindens ive earned through my xstreet sales.

I use xstreet more like a catalog to quickly see what's out there, but I always tp to the creators shop to make my purchase.
Plus, I really *enjoy* the experience of going to a store, seeing or meeting other people, admiring the store build, discovering nearby shops, etc. It's part of the magic of sl to me.
Some things I could not imaging buying without being able to see or demo first, such as animations, buildings, furniture, sculpted objects, etc.

You left out the option that I, and I bet a lot of people, use. I use XStreetSL to find products, but instead of directly buying from XStreet, I go to in-world shops to make final decisions.

Alot of times ill take a look at something inworld, then go see if its also listed on Xstreet. Some vendors will give discounts for Xstreet purchases, so...

I vastly prefer in-world shopping.
When I do look for something on XStreet, in the unlikely event I find it, I'll try to track it down in-world to purchase it before breaking down, finding an available XStreet terminal, transferring the L$ and buying it.
As horrid as XStreet's search is, it's slightly better than the in-world search. Both of them are barely a step above picking a random spot on the map, teleporting and hoping to find whatever you're looking for there.

I *hate* Xstreet, but sometimes search using it, and only ever buy there to gift a no-transfer item.
The search sucks, too, but not quite as much as in-world Search. Actually, maybe it is just as bad as in-world Search, come to think of it. On the other hand, you can get a URL to share the product info with somebody else, so that's a feature.
It's pretty sad, considering all the information that they could be using--including in-world data, now that LL owns it--they should have a recommendation engine that would be Bezos' wet dream. Not even close.

I use Xstreet to search out specific items or things in a specific category -- like 'building aids'. I pretty much never shop for clothing via Xstreet though -- my preference is inworld browsing and random buying for that.

i go half and half... before the *upgrade* i was an avid xstreet shopper. I could be in world, multi-tasking and shop at the same time without the lag of constant tp's. If i found something i wanted to see *in person* i'd grab the slurl and go. Now? It just depends. So much CRAP on xstreet, so much look-a-likes and SSDC... same sh*t different color, that its almost a worthless pursuit. I often look on xstreet like others do, as a catalog, tp in world to see, then buy from one or the other, depending on price.
Xstreet was GREAT when it was slex, Now? heh. waste.

I hate shopping in both RL and SL, it's much easier to find what I want online in both cases.
I use XStreet because I can find what I want much more quickly (I find it better than in world search). If it's something I need to see rezzed and/or I can't find what I want, then I will search in world.
Most in world shops are a rezzing lag nightmare for me, and many are laid out poorly, forcing me to shop entirely by camming. There are of course exceptions, but they are few and far between.
That said, I agree that the new Xstreet look is ugly, ugly, ugly.

The only reason I don't store shop in RL is because I have big anxiety problems. I simply can't be around people. (>_< I'm in SL to fight those problems and give myself an environment where I can be myself. So, inworld shopping, all the way! (^_^)y

I will find what I am looking for on XSSL then go to the creator's store to buy it. I rarely buy from XStreet directly.

From: Imnotgoing Sideways The only reason I don't store shop in RL is because I have big anxiety problems. I simply can't be around people. (>_< This does not show. I am surprised to hear this. I may be the opposite. Being in world makes me more anxious with too many blinky HUDS maps and various text windows to keep up with. I am out of my comfort zone in a big way. As to the OP question, I use X-Street strictly as a search engine to find products. I then usually find them in world by the creator's name. This often works better than the crummy in world search.

If I may ask, what is Xstreet? I saw it listed on the dashboard.

i'll look on xstreet and if i really like the creators stuff i will go to their store.. I'm worn out on waiting for high resolution images to rezz or whatever other reason for slow rezz.. some places their stuff will rezz right away where some places it's like..bleh..
Xstreet i can get a hint of whats there and if it's worth the rezz time i'll go..

Shop on XStreet, but buy inworld.
I have to TP to a terminal anyway, so why not go to the store itself? You never know what else might catch your eye.
Which brings up a pet peeve: XStreet products that don't provide links to their stores. I can understand why they aren't always present, but it can make the difference between a sale or a no thank you.
And I love the filtered search feature on XStreet.

I picked XStreetSL because generally speaking I prefer web shopping over in-world shopping. That said I do both.

I've used Xstreet all of ONCE in 3 years for a product purchase, and that was only because the creator didn't sell inworld. I do not, and never have liked it, but gladly used it for L$ purshases when Lindex was choking on my perfectly valid credit card.
