I *think* that was used, but I'm not 100% sure.

Custom names can be bought?

Yes, if you're willing to pay a lot of money for the privilege: $500 setup plus $500/year. If you buy a custom last name you can register as many avatars as you like with that last name. There are also limits on the names you can get; basically, they have to sound like organization names rather than personal ones. See http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Custom_Name_Program

There is also a lower-cost program for vanity names that is also mentioned on that page; that one gets you a single special name for $50 setup plus $50/year. But they only grant those at their discretion, mostly to people who are famous in RL, and the name has to match your RL name.

There is a site, slnamewatch.com, that has information about all (or nearly all) the last names that have been used in Second Life, including the date they became available and (for retired names) the date they became unavailable if those dates are after the launch of the site in July 2007.

The site also gives a way to find out what names are currently available, and which registration portals have them. (Though their lists are not complete; they only list a name at the FIRST site on their list that has it, and the same name might be available from other portals as well.) Some names are only available through third-party registration sites, not from secondlife.com. Sadly, they can't currently get the list of names available at secondlife.com; it used to be available but LL changed something that made it break.

I've always been attracted to salacious. I think it'd be a great surname.
