Up until about a month ago, the set of folks answering questions had been fairly stable for quite some time, with a few notable exceptions. Now I see more new names, thank god!! Blessings to you all, new answerers!

I also see an increasing sprinkling of questions being asked by forum newcomers in forums other than RA ... particularly Technical Issues.

This post is to draw your attention to the "New Posts" button in the menu at the top of the page. If you use this once in a while, instead of just watching RA, you'll catch all the questions scattered around.

You'll also see new posts to the content fora (building tips, texturing tips, machinima etc.), which are the most learnful posts, and see all the new product announcements (yay!).

Happy answering!

I guess I qualify for this. You are most welcome. I answer when I know the correct answer for sure.

I offer my opinions based on my personal views and habits when people are seeking opinions.

I want to use this opprotunity to thank everyone that has helped me with my questions. Forums like this are a proven method for sharing information and knowledge.

What you fail to point out is how addictive that "New posts" button can become...

...or is it just me?

I agree! I don't browse the forums anymore, I spam 'new posts'.

Only exception is the building forum, which usually has new posts that are old enough to not be shown (And i like answering there)

it's just you...........

I generally don't look at the other forums much, except new products, so I just do a quick scan of the first page or so, but the new posts button is a great tool for the Power User.

I've been trying to answer questions now that I feel I have a small stable of experience - I still love this forum (and its in-world counterpart, the cartel) and am grateful beyond expression for the help and support I've received from it (and the cartel). So I very much want to answer questions whenever I see one I feel I can contribute to. And, thanks for thanking us new answerers, Nika! :D

I also love the *new posts* button ... don't know how I'd keep up without it. :D

I read these forums all day long but don't answer questions. Mainly because I'm still new to the forums and feel there are more qualified people to do so, plus there a lot of quick draws here who have a question answered within 2 minutes of it being posted. What I do now is just chime in on posts when I have something relevant to the topic to talk about.

I've answered a few where I wasn't too sure if it would help. Sometimes I'm completely off the mark, and at other times, I'm actually able to help (to my own surprise).

I don't use the New Posts button, but I scroll down the forums once in a while.

You aren't a full-fledged member of the clique (which may or may not exist) until you chime in whether your material is relevant or not. ;) :D

I use the New Posts button exclusively. Don’t know why, just always have. That unfortunately has lead to me making some lame brain comments in areas that I had no use being in, like the Linux forums or Animation Tips. Unlike the usual lame brain comments I make everywhere else. :p

/me shudders. I've seen people go into that Linux forum. When they come out, they are.....different. It's scary.

Here's an example of a really good reason to use the "New Posts" button:

/341/4f/250134/1.html

This is LL's VP of Marketing asking for YOUR input on what we want if they do a facelift for the forums.

/me prays that people take a deep breath and engage brain before posting to that thread.

But do post. And let's do remember the topic is forum FACELIFT, not moderation.

I answer when I can.Though most of the time I feel like a dumbass and I'm sure any moment someone will come along who can answer better than me.:)

Can't be worse than my attempts to answer a question. And I keep trying.

Darn, if I had known that was the ticket into the clique (which may or may not exist) then I would of contributed to the cheesecake threads on Friday.

It's the beards. (^_^)

I'm a New Posts Only lurker. The only time I actually use the forum folders is if I plan to start a new thread... Which is all of, what, 2? (=.=) Other than that, every time I visit, I go straight for that New Posts button. (^_^)y

It really is good to see some new people coming in to contribute. It can wear people out, answering the same questions over and over, and I think some of that has led to the recent unpleasantness. It's nice that there is someone else to help out, and it's always good to get fresh perspective.

Contrary to popular opinion, I've given several legitimate answers when I've known the answer. Usually in the time it takes me to type my answer, three or four other people have posted the answer, but I still tried to help. One of these days, I'm going to sneak in there in first place. It's fun to help out, and it's important for the new residents to have a place where they can ask people with more experience questions. I found these forums when I was brand new because I was frustrated to the point of quitting SL with my stupid AO. If it weren't for the friendly people willing to answer a dumb question, I would probably have quit SL altogether.
