Yes, i commend LL for being proactive with both of our accounts. LL actually stopped 5000 L being transfered out of my partners a/c (not a great amount!).....that however doesn't hide the fact that it does occur, which relates to what the OP was initially saying.
So if a "tight" password was cracked (my partners), just imagine what happens to those "Harley1 and Adam12" type passwords.
The point I'm making, it's not just negligence on behalf the player, but there are cases that are outside the control of the players. The OP and my SL partner are both cases of such events. This is not a dig at LL's security......but you can't stick your head in the sand pit and pretend it's not happening either.

Rene,
Your thoughts are appreciated. I have been away from SL for a bit, due to RL demands, but feel it is important to revive (or continue) this conversation. I have just today received email notification from Linden Labs support that my original ticket of June24 has been resolved. In fact, that initial ticket was followed by two additional tickets, outlining the theft and attaching a month's worth of transaction reports, in which each theft is clearly identified. Those follow-on tickets have gone unanswered, again since June 24.
While I do appreciate that the amount taken from me was small, particularly in US dollar terms, I am concerned about the possibility of a pattern or a systemic issue that may inadvertently enable this sort of theft. I was pleased to read that your partner did not suffer a loss and that Linden Labs stepped in to proactively manage the situation. However, I find it interesting that an attempted theft was made in what seem to be very similar circumstances.
Against this background, I would hope that others with similar experiences would come forward. I have heard from other residents that there are others with similar experiences, and it seems that at least in one case, the resident became so disillusioned that he or she simply left SL for good. That to me is indeed an unfortunate result -- many exciting developments are taking place and no doubt will take place in SL. However, if problems do arise (as they will from time to time), and those problems go directly to the integrity and reliability of residents' L$ or other valuable SL assets, I believe that it is in the best interests of all residents for victims to speak up so that all necessary measures can be taken to see that those who perpetrate fraud and theft are not afforded the privilege of residency.
All further thoughts welcome!
Sincerely,
Nongmin Thor
