They should send all the newbies to Greenies Home Rezzable.

Newbies have to have SOMEWHERE that is their first experience outside the Prelude, though, and it helps to have people there so that the new folks don't think SL is empty. Then LL ought to send them to NCI or the Shelter. _____________________

Then LL ought to send them to NCI or the Shelter. I believe that would fairly greatly change the character of those places. I think it's wrong to suggest that every newbie wants help - some might be happy to stand around at a WA for a few hours, chat to people and check our the things people are showing off. I know I did at Ahern when I was starting, although it was quieter then (no free accounts!). People at NCI are usually, at least initially, there to be helped, and having every newbie bearing down on the sites would alter that quite a bit. |

Perhaps but I see no reason to send them to the very worst places in Second Life. When I started SL there was only one Welcome Area and it was indeed a Welcoming Area with plenty of people willing to help new residents. I see none of that in the current Welcome Areas. When a new resident enters SL they start at orientation with helpful tutorials and then they are sent to a Help Island with more tutorials plus helpful Mentors to get them started. I see no reason why they should then be sent to griefer infested areas such as the so-called Welcome Areas. Send them anywhere but to these cesspools. _____________________

Griefers will go wherever newbies are, because they are easy targets and many griefers are disposable alts who go through the same newbie process. Moving the arrival point would just move the griefers too.

the problem with existing WA's is there is no control.... very little help but plenty of griefing. Non LL WA's have the control that has been missing in the WA's for years now. The WA's of 2004-2005 are not the same as they are now.
Why? LL doesnt care about them, its just about the numbers. At least if new rezzies had a safe place to be sent to I feel the retention would increase. It's possible to have a fun, yet safe area for new people and the griefers would grow weary of being ejected and banned. _____________________

Hmmm, my understanding was they are. If not, then it needs to be LL staff. US$10/mo is what they get, which is probably what most of 'em go through in uploads. |
