/me looks for the "Violence Against Men" discussion line in the *absolutely gender-unspecific" month-long event currently happening . . .

Pep ( . . . but astonishingly enough, can't find it. )

Pep, would you like to meet in-world to discuss your proposal for a presentation on the subject of violence against men? Or we could exchange e-mails, of course. I'm more than happy to help you put this together in any way that I can. :)

I should probably read more about this before posting, but: Is there a "Community Partnership Program" opportunity here somewhere? Ignoring for the moment the land ownership issue (details, details), would it make sense for some "community" to form from former Mentors, Helpers, Greeters, etc., to devise some new plan for helping with NUE?

Is there (or could there be) enough known about LL's plans to prevent going in directions that might be redundant, irrelevant, or counter-productive?

Would there be motivation for it--if not among the many-times-bitten former helpers, perhaps with a new cast?

(I know who I'd wish for leader of such an initiative, but he might be a little busy now... and as I've said before, I hope LL's New User Experience initiative is already doing whatever he might recommend.)

Sorry for the derail . . .

I think that a sort of central planning committee would be a wonderful idea, but is it feasible, given some of the divisions that are already evident in the community?

One advantage of this would be to perhaps accommodate those communities that have particular needs or issues with regard to entry into SL and mentoring. Most obviously this would include those concerned about the language issue, but I know that educators, for instance, would like to create their own entry portal for students, geared particularly for their needs. Speaking unofficially as a member of several SL women's groups, I also know that we have particular concerns, re. safety, with regard to the initial experience of women in SL.

I think that any sort of central planning would have to take some of these communities into account, either through consultation or direct membership.

The irony would certainly be conspicuous....

...Mr. Daniels ... Please rest easy knowing that you will not find yourself faced in the future by the threat of assault with a deadly calculator or slide rule.

Don't breathe a sigh of relief yet, Peppy.

Well, LL has announced that as of December 11th, there will be no more Mentors. But they still want our volunteer help to help them grow.

*whispers* Don't peek under any desks to make sure you're really the last one though...

We got sent a (RL) t-shirt when they booted us out of Live Help... if they're being stingy this time I'm grabbing mugs and bears and other things to get my severance bonus! :p

Just noticed this over on the RHN Discussion board:
From: someone
Lexie Linden:
In response to the couple of questions about the Help Islands:
Linden Lab is working to improve the new user experience from registration to finding value inworld. This includes a new 1st Location for new arrivals. Whether this will include resident help has yet to be determined. The first phase of the RHN beta will include bringing the first groups into the program. Those groups will be listed on the website. (Hopefully in January) We plan to do messages of the day pointing at that listing as well. We will also try out various other methods to shine the spotlight on these groups!
As the new Resident experience of the future develops, consideration will be given to how we can best connect RHN groups to arriving new Residents. I will update the groups as information comes in!

Is this the first mention of the “new 1st Location for new arrivals”?
Does this mean Gateway Communities?
Seems any answers to the question of whats going to happen to the residents at the Help Islands once the Mentors no longer have access has been kind of vague or non existent …well other then the whole thing about bots replacing Mentors.

You have to love their 'kick them while their down' approach. Fire us then equate us to bots.

I think a lot of us want to see what is the new NUE that they will go to. Hopefully not CGs, as they pay LL island money for the privilege of generating new customers to pay the lab. The CGs already do part of this as they do not just get sent the population segment they are targeting (language, disability, interests, etc) but any random new resident who picks them in the signup process.

Plus LL gets to sell the servers their help islands are on if they farm out the work. Oh, and reallocate the minimal resources that were connected to the mentor program. A win-win for the almighty Lab!!!
