Well I did something I rarely do, i tried a totally new deisgner who I had not seen on another avie (usually when i try someone new i have seen it on someone and went ohhhhhh). Anyway I got a rather expensive short dress, loooks fantastic on the pics of it...

Got it home and tried it on.... hmmmmm odd, no pants or skirts layer,,, and the top is very short so every bloody time i move my whole bootom half is exposed to the world O.o ok so i think the creator made a mistake... im them... nope no mistake O.o I mean WTF??? *sighs* a lot o linden down the drain on a usless dress.

Also if i look at the prim sleeves the creator asnt bothered to put an ivisiable texture on the bottom of the prims making them look like i have loos threads *sighs*

My question is why bother?? why do designers bother to spend the time to create something (the textures on this dress are amazing they obviously spent a lot of time on that) to forget about the obvious things like a PANTS LAYER?? or making the prims looks nice... *sighs* i just dont get it

These are things that are learned over time.

Like with my dresses, I did away with the skirt layer and went with a pant layer for my long dresses. For some reason the mesh skirt's backside looks like a pumpkin's being snuck in, even with the bustle all the way down to 0. Same goes for cleaning up the bottom of prims, especially those with an alpha channel in the texture. Took me a couple of months to realize I could do that. *^.^* Now, I try to get them as clean as possible, though it's tough when you've got the "SL hates me and my prims keep going back to the previous texture" blues.

Of course, some people don't want constructive criticism, but then that's a sign of being unwilling to learn.

Yeah, I've purchased outfits like this and it is enough to drive you nuts. You can't find out much about the actual texturing of the outfit until you've bought it, but you can check what's in the package you're about to buy by right clicking, choose edit and click the contents tab. Then you'll at least know if there are glitch shorts included and what else might be.

There should always be a pair of shorts, panty or pants included with a design that has a prim skirt. If its a long gown prim skirt then definently pants and if short then shorts or a panty that covers the behind.

I always include them in my designs sometimes all so you have options but then I've been designing for several years. There is ALOT of new designers who dont like anyone trying to help them understand that customer service is essensal to making it in SL. I am so sorry you had that experience.

Please dont give up on shopping because there are others like me that enjoy making designs that look good on you and if there is a problem will listen and resolve it. :)

Actually, there is at least one brand of 'panti-less' skirts that are just the prim skirt piece and the way they are made does not actaully require an underlayer - at least not if you stay standing.

Eclectic, with respect to the sleeves, you might be able to help them by wearing a glove layer under them (if they're 3/4 or long). Go to Robin Sojourner's store and pick up the free gloves & socks for an example of how to make some -- they make your sleeves and pants look better, good to have anyway :)

LOL that is probably true but who wants to be a statue :P and if you move or walk everything below the waist is exposed for all to see. So even those IMO needs a panty or pair of shorts :D

I hate glitch pants for prim skirts and since I found the "panty less" skirts I refuse to buy skirts that require them. A well made panty less skirt looks so much more realistic and I can choose which underwear I want to wear with it. Glitch pants textures never match the prim skirt textures and because of that they make the skirt look "cheap". It looks like exactly what it is.......a work around to save time and work. I know that panty less skirts are harder to make than skirts made with giltch pants (I've done both for myself) but for a quality look a good designer will put in the effort.

My opinion.....yours might differ drastically. :)

LOL - Actually, I can walk in some of mine without showing anything inappropriate - depends on the length as to whether or not they are showing too much of my rear, but unless they are sheer, none of them are showing anything in the front when I walk. If I plan on sitting or lounging on furniture, I do ensure that I'm wearing some kind of panties. What I was really meaning though, was that if they are made well, you don't need glitch pants or non-prim skirt to cover the skin.

One pants-less design I've been pretty impressed with is in the recent Ravenwear skirts. These actually have flippy scripts so it's seems weird to mention them in response to that complaint, but they work fine with that featured ignored =) They have nice full shapes that look like solid material, the pleats are good about keeping things covered when moving on a few shapes I've experimented with, they're not so crazy short as some of the ones out there, and they have deep waist/belt rings so that they can fit a lot of cross sections without the usual gaps.

But I do still like a lot of the styles that use glitch pants, they still seem to be necessary to get a slimmer skirt.

Some of us don't wear pants under our skirts. I think I stopped doing that in about the second grade. :)

You know I gave up wearing prim skirts a long time ago because they all look like crap no offense to the various creators. They do the best they can with our SL resources.

Just like in my first life I am wearing denim (texture) skirts in SL made of blue jean type material. No more metal skirts for me.

I know exactly how you feel. I have a very nice short dress by a well know designer that didn't come with anything for under the short skirt, except a kind of tube skirt. I found out how much was visible the first time I sat down, OH MY. Let me tell you I sure hit the blue 'Stand Up' button super fast.

I went into Appearance and used a fabric texture I had bought, changed the color to match the skirt and I had my own shorts to wear under the skirt. You can't tell the shorts didn't come with the dress. I also made my own tights/leggings to go under a Xmas outfit that was showing more rear exposure than I was comfortable with, again by using Appearance.

There are also classes in all levels of making clothing. That is a good way to learn how to make your 'fixes' be better overall.

I ONLY wear prim skirts with a pant base and I can't stand the bulgy look of non-prim skirts. The trick imho is to find a creator who textures the pants base well enough that it looks great rather than looking like you've got cycling shorts on. Also make sure that the pants are just a tiny bit shorter than the prim skirt, something I usually have to amend as my avatar isn't over 6 feet tall ;)

My fav place for skirts was Last Call but seeing as that's closed try Husky GFX or Dutch Touch, my absolute favourite stores for dresses right now. It's important to find a creator who not only makes great clothes but clothes that fit your avatar too. I got a freebie dress at Easter from a big popular store that looks terrible on me because the skirt is far too long. At some point I need to sit down and edit each individual prim to make it shorter *sighs*

When trying a new store out I totally second sneaking a look inside the sales box with edit to see what is included in the outfit. Imho the best shop owners will list the contents on the picture so that's a good sign. Check out their freebies first too.

I'm sorry you got burnt trying a new designer. It's happened to all of us. I bought a L$600 dress the other day that went straight in the bin. Ugliest thing you've ever seen!

Well, I've been told about the WWII Utility Pants - one Yank and they were off! Does it all start in the second grade? ;)

This morning I went to a very popular store that I've frequented since almost day 1, I saw a lovely outfit, it was $995 but I liked it so..... anyway I put it on and my a$$ is hanging out the back of the skirt and I thought about this thread.

Maybe my butt is too big?

Where can I find a panti-less skirt? I really like the idea, hate the glitch pants and shorts, too.

I used to make some short dresses and skirts with 3 levels of modesty. One set of pants the same length as the skirt. One set of pants that went down to cover just the necessities, and one that stopped just past the point where the prim skirt attached. The latter was intended to be worn with panties because it you were dancing at all, people will see them. If you were not wearing panties people would see just how detailed your skin was ;)

In any case, let me see what I still have. I lost and/or threw away most of my stuff after a nasty breakup -- but that's another story all together.

I'll put together whatever I have left and add it as a box of freebies to the Forum Cartell hangout collection. Boots, leather jackets, gowns, buisness suits, dresses, jeans ... whatever i still have around. Most of the really sexy stuff had wendy's name in them one way or another so they were "trashed and burned" in a heartbroken fit. Stupid thing to do, I know.

Another thing that helps is I try to only buy stuff where the prim skirt is Mod. If there are glitch pants, I want them to be Mod also because I usually like them just a little shorter than what many designers make then.

I also click Edit and check the contents before buying. It the items is sold in such a way that I cannot see that information, I likely will not buy it, unless I already have clothes from that designer and know how they do things. Even that isn't a given, because some designers will change how they do the underlayers from one outfit to the next.
