So how do I know if the poses I am buying are "high priority?" I'm assuming poses from places like Reel Expression and other well known shops would be correct with the priorities?

Can only speak for my store (Reel Expression) and all the poses in the modeling section are uploaded with priority 4 and lock all the joints. There was a trend for a while to make poses that would work for both modeling and AOs. The issue with it is in an AO most want the gestures to show through and the head and neck to move with the camera, but for modeling it's easier to have the avie locked into place.

Like Sensual said, while trying it out typle lol into chat. If your entire body moves then it's low priority. If only parts move then some joints aren't locked.

My largest problem has do to with head position and movement. It doesn't matter what pose I use, my avatar tends to flip her head away, and I can't get face shots for the most part, unless I am very patient. And they are often not very good face shots, because I have to take them in such a hurry before she moves again.

Freeze Frame is your friend!

Check Freeze Frame in the Take Snapshot box and the scene is.... well, frozen obviously, in full screen preview. So you can set your AV pose/position exactly as you want it, hit Freeze Frame, then spend as long as you like setting your camera position.

I like poses that allow head movement, giving you the ability to change the angle of a shot while the AV still looks directly into camera. Freeze Frame is invaluable for this.

Thanks, Kelly! I did not know about this feature. I'll have to play around with it.

Hi Princess - here are a few more ideas that may help you.

* I personally own the Photosphere from Kyoot Army, which is affordable and very well designed. It's a sphere so you have background all around you. It has easy texture change and some of the most interesting background packs available. Depends on what you want to use your studio for, but I use this exclusively for blogging fashion and it does the trick. Great lighting, very low prim and easy to use. My boyfriend uses the N30 and loves that but he has more prims to play with and uses it for different purposes than I do.
* For poses, I use mostly model poses from Luth (Reel Expression) who posted above, though there are other great shops as well. Some others to check out are Torrid Midnight's shops (she has an animation only shop in Dazzle), Lux Yao's Amaretto, Maitreya, Tuli, Happy Dispatch, Animah, and sooooo many others including those mentioned here.
* I use Huddles for model poses outside my sphere. Be sure when you're buying poses that they're copyable so you can use them in a multitude of ways :)

Have fun!
