... long as pep isn't there =X

j/k I've never met pep inworld... that I know of. Luskwood is generally friendly, furry oriented, if you can stand the newbies (which aren't too bad) NCI keeps good population. and if you are really bored you can pick up tiny empires, and join the group(s)... If the grid is up, they're almost always people worth hanging out with and events through there.

I can't ever get anyone at Luskwood to talk to me! Alot of times I'll show up, there will be 15 avis there, I'll say hey, and no one says anything for the whole 20 mins I'm there (on local chat atleast).

I thought it was just me....maybe it is. :)

Okay... one thing you have to realize... or at least something you can *imagine* is that most of the people around you are in the exact same boat.

Just think, a room full of people, all asking themselves, "Why isn't anyone talking to me?"

There are a couple of things you can do:

1) if you really can't bring yourself to start a conversation yourself, DON'T just stand there. Look around, walk through the place and check it out, get to know it. If there are a lot of people here, good! Isn't that what you wanted? When you've gone around the place once, leave. Do this every time you log on, and people will start to get used to seeing you around. They'll feel that you're one of the regulars -- because you ARE. Eventually someone will talk to you, or you will get up the nerve to start talking yourself.

2) pick the most unapproachable-looking person and say hello to them.

3) ask a general-interest question, even something stupid, like "did anyone see American Idol last night?"

4) ask somebody where they got their hair or skin or clothes or whatever...

if you try to start a conversation and it doesn't take off, that's okay, just walk away.

I understand and appreciate wanting accurate medieval garb. I do not understand requiring dragons and other non-human creatures to wear clothing if they stand on 2 legs. And given the pretense of medieval accuracy, i do not understand why the ball room allows modern formal wear.

I know this will sound catty, but they come across as prudish Victorian aristocrats playing "ye olde."
I agree that their rules are odd. It actually seems a mix of medieval with lots of fantasy and modern tossed in, hence the odd rules I guess.

I sometimes dance there because it is pretty around the ballroom and there are some beautiful dance spots in a forest in whatever the next sim over is. There are also some nice areas for riding horses.

Prudish Victorian Aristocrats 4TW!

Actually at one point a few weeks ago I saw one new resident and literally FOURTEEN helpers at Caledon Oxbridge there to help (we are wee bit Victorian, I daresay) ~ and almost felt sorry for the new person coming in...

... Caledon Oxbridge...

Somebody pointed me to Oxbridge when I first joined SL, and it became my home when I tp'd there the first time.

I hadn't been back and forgot where my home was until one day when I tried to log into a region that was down. I found myself standing in front of Professor... I forget his name... very nice man, though!

We chatted a little bit, and he gently scolded me for being "scantily dressed" (although I'm sure he didn't mind). I think he was more offended when I asked him to call me by my first name!

Yesterday I accidentally TPd into a Victorian sim dressed in a scanty barbarian outfit. I was looking for Medieval stores. Honest. The people were quite nice and didn't scold me for having my ankles showing. Also nearly everything else. :-)

That's practically an NCI tradition. Especially in group chat, Kuula, and now Oxbridge. We like our answer:question ratio to be 12:1 or so. =^-^=

That, and, one tall avatar MUST get on the tiny dance ball every Friday night. No exceptions. (^_^)y

Mostly, SL seems very cold and impersonal. This is true even of most of the RP groups I have explored. I enjoy historical RP but most of that involves rigid social structures.

What are nice (I use that word intentionally), non-meat-market, friendly places to meet people? Not interested in sex or romance. Not interested in religious groups.

Needs to be a place where people won't be weirded out by non-humans, although I look very human.

I do go to The Shelter, which is the best I've found so far.

try going into search and looking for live music, great way to have a really nice time in SL.

Have you been to the West of Ireland, particularly Nancy Blake's Pub? Very friendly and we try to follow RL pub social rules, more or less. Live music, dj's, all sorts of events, and really nice folks whom I'd like to know in RL.

Bunni, it depends on when you dropped in... it sometimes happens that folks in Luskwood go afk 'en masse' for short periods ... not that there's any particular time of day when that will happen (those periods aren't planned) but the folks on the platform are often multitasking... anything from working in Photoshop, or Poser, or Maya, or heading off to the kitchen for a sandwich, or handling things in IM, or similar activities. Sometimes random chance will result in everyone being distracted from local chat at the same time.

If you said 'Hi' and nobody responded, you probably had the bad luck to show up during one of those lulls - give it another shot sometime (and be sure to say 'Hello' :)).

Thanks. I'm not really a bar/pub person. RL or SL. But thanks for taking the time to help me.

I was referred to Ye Olde Terrier Inn. Goofy, corny, friendly environment. I love it.

I've always found coffee houses and naturish type sims to be friendly and "normal" by SL terms. If bikes or cars are your thing bike and car tracks are pretty normal too. Best bet is just play around in search and visit places.

Fair enough. Not everybody's cup of tea, although I could recommend Nancy Blake's myself, for anyone with a social streak I suppose (don't worry, the beer and stuff isn't real).

!?

Are you giving us the runaround, Sylvan? Or is there some peculiar detail of inns that generally sets them apart from pubs and bars?

Seem hard to please, ya don't mind me sayin so.

Forget it then. <g>

After making those posts, I realized they were conflicting. The Terrier is technically a bar, I guess. It doesn't feel like one to me. Different atmosphere.

Again, I wasn't putting down bars/pubs. And I have nothing against alcohol. Hic. I may try Nancy Blake's. I really do appreciate the suggestion.
