New Viewer.... Say Huh ?

Is it me or does the new viewer now

! Make the Water look more fake than it used to?

! Make the grass look like Fuzzy Green Dirt?

! Put water all around the perimeter of your draw distance making it look like you are on an Island even in the mountains?

How do I change back to the old viewer?

not really, the old viewer did not crop out buildings as hard and I believe used fog to blend into the horizon..

unless all this crack is making me see or not see things

Only the Windlight enabled viewers do that actually. Things just faded away at the edges of someone's draw distance in the prior versions.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

It is you, essentially. Your graphic slider, under "Preferences" is set to "low" most likely. Try fiddling with Medium, or click "custom" and adjust your settings as desired.

There are links to the old viewer in the recent SL blog posting "A well oiled machine."

Does anyone know the best settings to get rid of that washed out, bright light spotting that happens on surfaces? It's like a mega ball of light - I seem to see it most in the noon setting. It'a annoying. I don't have glow turned on by the way.

Also...has anyone tried the new viewer with windlight disabled? (Shaders check off). If so, what do you think of the performance then?

There's two kinds of water though...

If you're seeing bland shifting dark blue unremarkable water, that's the 'default' Linden water. If you could see ripple water before and can't now even with "Basic shaders" set, LL took the liberty of disabling it for you because they don't feel your old card deserves pretty water (open gpu_table.txt, look up your card and see if it has a 0 - the class - right next to it, followed by a 1 - card is supported in general. Change the 0 into a 1 and you get ripple water, reflections and glow back).

If you don't like the new sparkles/white dots they put into the water, that's something to just get used to :(.

I'd guess this was done to improve performance. Windlight really is slower even without all the shiny, rendering less than before is one way they can claim it's actually faster .

Unless you're having actual problems, it's best to get used to the "improved Windlight experience" since the viewer will become mandatory at some point.

Ok, it's not the sun

The light appears on SURFACES - like the side of my house, the base of my fireplace, etc.

I didn't have any problems running the WL versions I tried, but I'm still going to enjoy the old viewer as long as I possibly can. I'll switch only when they force me too.

Why? Because WL makes avs and many builds look fugly IMO. Generally speaking, I really don't care about pretty skies and water, and Nicholaz's last patch makes 18.5.3 run just dandy for me.

Does glow = local lighting? I found that washed out lighting effects for me seemed to eminate from local lighting such as the lighting in my house. Turning it down got rid of it for me.

New Viewer.... Say Huh?
04-04-2008 12:33
Is there ANY way to get a ZIPPED copy of the new viewer? I've been using the 18.4 viewer until just now with them making this new one mandatory because I have not been able to download any of the new viewers since that one. I either get partway into the download of the viewer and it locks up and says it cant download, OR it downloads all the way then is not able to be used, saying its bugged. Its NOT my computer, and its NOT SL, its something between them and me bugging out the file(i'm thinking my isp, who say its not them). The only large files I have been able to download for months without this problem have been files that are zipped. So, without the viewer being zipped, I'm going to have to leave SL with the new viewer being required. So.. suggestions or a link to a zipped copy anyone?

Has anyone checked to see if Nicholaz's last viewer patch is still working? I can't do it until I get home and he said this not to long ago:

From: someone
Please don't worry about the 1.19 becoming mandatory. The Nicholaz Editions are using their own channel (the word/phrase you see in the lower right corner on the login screen) since 1.18..0.6 so unless the Lindens do something entirely unexpected, BE-v will continue to run nicely.
