The "business in a box" at 4L or free, hurts the way to do business in SL?

Got it - I'm with you now Wilhelm. I can see why you wouldn't want to give full perm versions. When you have people ask for them, have you offered to give them partial perms to fit their needs in return for more compensation? It seems like they would need full perms to fully rip you off, since they would need to take an item and both copy it and transfer it. If they can't copy, then they could only sell what they had already bought. If they can't transfer, then it doesn't matter how many copies they make.

Offer to sell them 50 of the same item with transfer rights but no copy at 10% over your retail price and watch them leave.

Would you consider selling, say 2 dozen of an item with transfer rights, but no copy rights if I had a resale store? What if we had a deal in place where I would buy items in bulk with no copy, but transfer rights from you at a mild discount and agree to sell them at a set price (not to exceed x) out of my location? We set the price so I could take a profit, and you increase your sales substantially, but take a smaller profit per item? How about exclusive sales rights on a product line? Surely if I made a juicy enough offer, you would be willing to work something out, right?

This is done all the time. Or rather, it's not uncommon.

No i was going to set up a commission vendor system its safer and one guy i offered to sell him an item "in bulk" as in no copy/transfer so he could sell them line his own but he never came back to me. This was awhile back. People seem to be married to the full perms idea so meh whatever :)

I know the competition that will come along someday is learning from LL's mistakes. But do they have to make so many?

Maybe what we need here is new terminology.

Let's call the ripoff get rich quick thingie loaded with freebie items the "Business In A Box".

Let's call Morwen's idea...a package that contains (I would think) some billboard objects or a vendor object, and "buy" scripts, and maybe some signage templates, and links and hints for advertising on SLexchange and secondlife.com forums, and advice on pricing, customer service...you know, all the "stuff" you need to set up a business except the actual merchandise...we could call that an "SL Instant Merchant's Package", or SLIM Pack.

Still being a Newbie (less than 6 months), I have wanted something like this soooo bad and have looked all over. I've managed to pick up some of the free Vendors and some other misc things that could be useful, but starting an SL business seems like such a huge task that it is really kind of mind blowing. When I'm at work and have a large project, I know enough about things to figure out how to break it into the small tasks needed to make it easier. The 'Business' idea just seems too large and I just don't even have enough of a clue to figure out the best tasks to break it in to -- so for now, I just sit here and play with my little creations while I try to figure out the best way to go about selling stuff.

I know there are some Business classes, but they just never seem to coordinate with my schedule, and there really doesn't seem to be as many of those as there are classes about other topics.

As a lot of us Newbies are a bit skeptical, I'm not really sure what I would pay for some sort of Starter Kit, simply because it would be difficult to judge whether it would really be worth it or not -- but I would sure as heck like the opportunity to make that decision.

Here was my business plan:
1) Create stuff people might be willing to pay money for.
2) Buy some land
3) Put vendor on land
4) Pay to put land in search.

That's a good start, but it's not an OMG BIZNEZ NOW model. Keep in mind that it actually takes 1-4 months to learn to build/script/make clothing, depending on a number of factors (previous computer design/programming/etc.).

There is an individual selling a really nice business right now. I`m not sure if you get more then what`s pictured though ( I would hope so, it would justify the price a little more )

Everything looks really well done, I even own a hair made by her. If you have time to add to the collection and such it could be a great bargain. But remember, there`s always risks.
