From: CrystalShard Foo 1)There is a device out there that is being sold with a "default enemy list" to the public. According to the seller this was an error and was removed in a later update. (I've done this before, with a security device that had a personal blacklist. It took me a while to notice actually.) To be honest I don't trust any of these specific accusations; it all looks like SL Dramatics to me, certainly judging by the other thread.

Interested parties should be aware that the creator of this product has an unusually vindictive competitor whose dishonest and unscrupulous accusations have led to him and his products being banned from SL Exchange (something not often done by SLX). She has also been subjected to a wide variety of griefing attacks in SL and malicious posts on her websites by unknown parties who have not bought her product and whose source or inspiration can be guessed at really really easily. A philosophical discussion of the merits of such weapons might be helpful, but IMO the creator of this product and the product itself are beyond reproach.

As much of a mess as that other thread was, and deeply deserving of a lock, the last post there (by CrystalShard) raised a question to which the answer is kind of important to discover for anybody using many recent sensor-based scripts: Is it indeed the case that some QuantumCore script (currently or in some version) as a countermeasure filled the object Name field with thousands of characters, crashing any other script that calls llGetObjectDetails(OBJECT_NAME) on the scripted object?
(The other forum would be a better place to explore the proper behavior of that field--it seems to be pretty complicated, with 63 the max length once in inventory, 255 once the object has "spoken", and thousands otherwise. But for the moment, I'm loathe to risk that whole other venomous thread getting restarted right now.)
As for a philosophical discussion (suspending for a moment my profound apathy about all such scripts), Travis raised a point that gives me pause: Why *is* anonymity ever an acceptable feature, if the action would be AR-able without the consent of the acted-upon?

At this time there is no such script in Quantum Core. I doubt there ever was one, but can't be certain. It is inadvisable to trust rumors about Quantum Core because there is a clever and malicious source of disinformation out there. And anonymity has its uses in combat sims - even if you don't want to make griefers in other areas feel like they were struck down suddenly by the hand of God. : )

A philosophical discussion of the merits of such weapons might be helpful, but IMO the creator of this product and the product itself are beyond reproach. mmm, there are two camps Har, those who consider Darling Brody to be "beyond Reproach", and those who know the truth of the matter. It doesn't take much digging around the forums (or SL) though to find out that Darling is widely unliked because of the *fact* that she is far from beyond reproach, extremely vindictive, and nasty to anyone who dares to challenge her. She also loudly makes wild, baseless accusations and claims in public forums, and holds herself above the rest of SL society. Frankly, it was a matter of time before she overstepped the mark and added a large list of "enemies" for her private army to attack. It's good that you are a fan of hers, you probably wont end up on the list, those of us on her "honour" list welcome the chance to be able to report her abuse. Beyond reproach huh. What's with the Mr Hush thing? Does she know something my mum doesn't? Claims that I abused everyone in her support group, an example of her lies. I actually exposed the way her product works to her users, those that blindly took her word abused me, others saw exactly what she was doing. It was an eye opening experience for all. No-one in her support group said they had my name there by choice, however some did say that they would leave my name there for daring to say that it was there. That is the level of idiocy that her claims generate. Is that abuse? I call it. The fact is, if Darling had not put my name in her enemies list, i would have no cause or want to speak to her clients, she has, therefore........ Darling has no conscience at all with regard to others. She does not care that her followers are doing real damage in real time to the people on that list. She does not care that her customers are getting abuse reported. She is safe. She is the creator, and according to her, she is above the rules. Send a message.

From: someone Agreed. But you've specifically listed features that perform those functions *anonymously* or *without them knowing you did it*. By design, these functions aren't for use with consent. Of course, the owner has to pull the triger, so it is arguable whether you're responsible from a TOS/CS perspective as the creator. Perhaps you dont understand my meaning of *anonymously* in the context of a weapon system. I know I can sometimes be vague in my descriptions when I am trying to shorten them for advertising. It is all about avoiding scripted-auto-retaliation from your victim. If you can kill someone in combat without being auto killed by their scripted-auto-retaliation, you win! From: someone Travis raised a point that gives me pause: Why *is* anonymity ever an acceptable feature, if the action would be AR-able without the consent of the acted-upon? The QC does not prevent you from locating the attacking object with beacons to send an AR in the normal way. I do know how to make an object that can't be selected for AR purposes, but I will never make use of such a device. From: someone creating or using scripted objects which singularly or persistently target another Resident in a manner which prevents their enjoyment of Second Life. I have a personal dislike of weapons that attack someone without the owners express permission. Foe lists that are used to auto-attack without asking the owner first will never be included in my creations. That leaves it up the the indevidual owners to comply with the above requirements, just the same as any other object that could be misused. From: someone According to the seller this was an error and was removed in a later update. (I've done this before, with a security device that had a personal blacklist. It took me a while to notice actually.) It took me almost 3 days to put out a fix. I am normaly a lot faster at catching and fixing problems than that. Mr Hush and his friends harassing me added at least a day to that time, because I had to deal with the problems they were making for me. From: someone She also loudly makes wild, baseless accusations and claims in public forums, and holds herself above the rest of SL society. I will not be posting the contents of the threatoning IM's you sent me publicly. I also locked out the threads you created on my forums to protect their contents from alteration. Those people who need to see the proof will see it in the criminal charges my father is organising on my behalf. You should know better than threatoning the RL physical safty of a young woman. Doing so has left you open to criminal charges. You explosed your RL identity when you deliberatly trashed my support forum. My father will ensure you have RL consequences. As always, I ask people to leave me alone. All I want to do is create things with lots of shiney sparkely parts in a quiet corner of SL, without having to deal with all this product drama. Mr Hush, get a SL of your own, your not welcome in mine. Darling.

I don't recall asking to be in your SL, and it's Miss Hush btw.
I also sort of remember Linden Labs owning SL.

From: someone * Ability to anonymously mess up your enemies so badly they have to log out. * Ability to Banish(tm) your enemies from a region for as long as you like, without them knowing who did it. * Anonymous Orbits that work over no-push land, even when the target is sitting. * Traps and cages that hold your enemies. * Comical attacks to frustrate your enemies while you laugh at them! * Bugging device to listen to other people's conversations remotly. * Movement locks with auto punishment to send people flying who dare to walk into you.
Each of these features appears to be a TOS/CS Violation, with no otherwise legitimate use. One could argue that creating a device like this is at best, irresponsible. It is impossible for any consumer to make use of *any* of the above features without simultaneously violating the TOS/CS.
However, the way the rules work - it is typically the owner of the device, not the creator who is held responsible for how the device its used. Just like a Sim Nuke - its 'legal' to create one, just not legal to use one. QFT Im pretty sure crashing client software, enabling users to ignore local restriction (push on no-push land) and enabling users to bug other users chat is well outside of TOS, all w/o consent or knowledge count as a TOS violations... assuming someone pops into the shop and AR's the creator, LL will decide if it is or not.

There are such scripts. I'm not sure if they break scripts that use llGetObjectDetails, but they do break scripts that have unfiltered llListens. But afaik it is not part of Quantum Core, and I never saw Darling use something like it. But I saw a Darling hater using it on her and everyone else who teleported into Sandbox - Weapons testing, including me. I found it funny however... and it did almost nothing to my scripts, except make them say error... Other users in range, especially those with no copy/no mod items would probably have a different opinion about it tho.... And without scripts that show you what's going on on "hidden" chat channels you will never know who did it. And yea, I think the object's name needs to be >= 255 chars for it to break scripts. Make it say something and it screws all the listeners... Maybe someone wants to open a jira issue about it? I don't really care enough to open a issue...

Forum GuidelinesPrivate discussions – the forums are a public area for the Second Life community’s use. Individuals who have a dispute with each other have other channels of communication to discuss their differences or communicate – private messaging, IM within Second Life, or chatting within Second Life. Also, threads that are addressed to a single individual or group are inappropriate on the forums, this includes slander or "naming names" in a posts title, starting polls about a particular resident or group, etc. Flaming, Spamming, Trolling – Flaming (posting a message that is intended to incite anger or directly attack a person or persons), Spamming (multiple posts of the same topic or discussion), and Trolling (a post with an intentionally contrary opinion written with the intent of inciting or getting argumentative opinions) are strongly discouraged. If you think your post might be over-reactive, or that it might fall into one of these definitions, please reconsider posting. Posting enough information to determine the parties identify in question is still a violation. If it weren't we might as well not have the rule.
