Problem with skin

Hi I have been having a problem with the skin I have been wearing for 2 years.
It suddenly changed to having a white face and hands.
I have tried editing my appearance but the controls for changing the color do not seem to work. They do other trivial things like hair. I have tried rebaking the character texture without success.

Can anyone suggest what I could try next?

Hopefully someone who actually knows something will come along to give you an answer soon.
To me that sounds as if the servers have just completely lost the textures or something...

It doesn't sound like the NVIDIA palletized textures bug...that one produces black.

All I can suggest is the standard litany: Clear cache and relog. If that doesn't work, uninstall SL, manually delete the cache folder, reinstall and relog. If THAT doesn't work, sacrifice a chicken on your monitor during the full moon while chanting prayers to Guy Linden and Philip Rosedale. And dancing nude. With incense.

I have seen the nvidea bug also cause the white

so on that note, what video card are you using and what series of drivers?

which client are you using to run SL?

Thanks for the pointer. I am using an NVidia card GEFORCE 7800GTX a pair with SLI enabled drivers 6.14.11.8120 last updated 12/26/2008.

I had changed drivers some tiume ago and the avatar had appeared unchanged the whiteness appeared just recently.
Thanks for any help.

I have done the clear cache and relog - no effect.
I have done the remove SL and ALL its files and folders and downloaded a fresh copy of the same version and restarted. No effect I still have white face and hands and no changes take place when I try editing appearance.

Any further thoughts/

Have you tried changing to a different skin and then changing back?

What Damien said:

This was in another thread:

From: Kitty Barnett

1) Take off all clothing (probably want to be somewhere private )
2) Left-click on the "corrupted" skin and Ctrl-C to copy it
3) Create a new folder (the point here is that you can tell the copy from the original so this is just one easy way to do that) and Ctrl-V to paste a copy of the skin into there
4) Wear a newbie skin (there's some in the library)
5) Edit / Preferences - Network - Clear Cache and close SL & relog
6) Rebake
7) Wear the *copy* of the skin, do another clear cache and relog
8) Rebake

Not all of the steps are always necessary, but going through the whole elaborate thing gives you the best chance of making it work . If it works, delete the original skin and just wear the copy from then on.

CTRL SHIFT R

CTRL SHIFT D

Isn't that it?

I have to do that every time SL updates or begins to update...

If you know something about graphics cards please see my thread on those currently in RA. Thanks.

(I haven't seen the random white spots I get the random black spots on av or av clothes/textures)

Which specific thread were you referring to. You have contributed to so many a little clue would be nice. Thanks.

Have ya tried turning off palletized textures yet?

If this is related to the nVidia glitch.....then that's the only fix. I have nVidia8800 and if I don't turn off palletized textures.....I get all kinds of funky things going on with some skins LOL White....pink....black......purple....you name it.

So....before you panic.....go to advanced options.....'rendering'....then features.....and un-check 'palletized textures'. Once you do this you might have to rebake.....but since this bug appeared I have always just done that as soon as I logged in, and stuff reverts right back. That's the other thing.....you have to un-check pelletized textures every time you log in because it wont save that setting. No big deal.....if it works, your problem is solved. ;)

You haven't recently been consulting the same doctor as Michael Jackson have you?

Have you tried just switching off your computer and going outside?

Seriously, people will laugh and point, but the pallor will disappear after a while.

CTRL SHIFT R

CTRL SHIFT D

Isn't that it?

Ctrl+Alt+D (for the Advanced menu)

Ctrl+Alt+F7 (to deactivate palletized textures)

Ctrl+Alt+R (to rebake textures)

In that order.

I still find this solution is hit or miss because it may still be necessary to take off all clothes and wear something else until those textures are baked (I think two instances of blurring should be noted before a texture can be said to have been baked). Once that is done, you should try wearing the problematic texture again.

The whole business is a big pain in the neck. I can't help wondering why they don't have a stickie about it on Texture Tips.

Bugger. My sincerest apologies. Corrected them. It is 'Alt' not 'Shift' in every instance.

Err I think you are still wrong.
To rebake according to the advanced menu is Ctrl+Alt+R.

Anyone else like to contribute their version?

I had some difficulty with what you said. Please confirm the sequence Advanced Menu/Rendering/Features/? then what, on my viewer no option to un-check palletized textures exists.

Check my corrected post again. You will find that I corrected it to reflect the 'Alt' key instead of 'Shift'. But like I said, the solution is kind of hit or miss.

Should be academic at this stage anyway: palletized textures have been removed from the new viewer released today. Download that and see if the problem has been resolved.

I had the exact same problem when I tried to wear any kind of jacket. My legs would turn all strange colors... no matter what I did. I disabled 'palletized textures', rebaked and my issue is gone. Yes, I have to do this every time i log into SL
