My avatar's face changes with no change of skin, or clothing. Sometimes quickly and other times gradual? Has anyone come across this?

Did you just start using the Windlight viewer?
Lighting changes constantly throughout the SL day, so the appearance of many skins now varies along with it. You can set your time of day to what you wish to look at, but be aware that others using Windlight may be looking at you in a different light (to steal a phrase). _____________________

Sorry Daisy, can't say that I have. The only time my avi's face changes is with a different skin or shape.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things. Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut. |

Maybe you've been 'Ruthed' for a short while, (Ruth = original shape and/or skin)? It's happened to me once - my shape had been replaced, but my own skin was still the same. Creepy! Don't really know why , so I cleared cache, then relogged.

Avatar Face Change for no reason

I have tried without windlight and the face change still happens. The nose gets thin and pointy and dark circles under the eyes. I can open appearance -make no changes- close and the good face will come back sometimes. Outfits saved with good face when worn are not always the good face. Could this be a virus?

The fact that you say going in 'appearance' affects it sometimes makes me think your av isn't rezzing well. You can try rebaking textures. Can you see 'Client' at the top of your screen? If not, press CTRL-shift-D and it will appear. Then scroll down to character, then rebake. Before doing this, I really think you just might be due for a 'clear cache'. |

That's a rezzing problem - I get that too. It's especially bad on a male alt with facial hair because your goatee turns into a smeary mess. Try rebaking, and if that doesn't work, teleport home, then teleport back to where you were. On the plus side, your friends probably don't see it. I'v asked when it happens to me, and I'm the only one who sees it. _____________________

Could it be that time of the month? I've never seen one single women who has their face change because of that. Never ceases to amaze me the amount of sexist remarks that get made around here at times. _____________________

It does seem to be a rezzing problem. A slow rez to ugly. I have cleared the cache and went all the way back to ruth to try to see if it was something in the inv. Friends have seen it happen too. They can see the change on their computers too. Would a new shape and/or correct this? A Linden tip was to go to appearance and close without saving. Cant keep doinng this.

What you described is the exact same thing I have happen to me periodically, except that my friends usually can't see it. Have you tried rebaking? That usually only takes a few seconds. Clearing cache wouldn't help, I think, but even if it did, you would have to relog completely, which takes more time than what you're already doing. Either tp in and out like I suggested or rebake. Changing skins ought to do it, but then you have a different skin on. Unless you have two of every skin, that's going to be a PITA. Is your skin copy/no transfer? If so, try that - make a copy of it and when your face changes, drag the copy onto yourself and it should swap them - that will make your face re-rez.

At times, when I'm on a busy sim, most people look like smears to me unless I zoom up real close and wait. Always makes me feel like a voyeur...

I've seen problems where the avatar's slider settings don't seem to save correctly. So your avatar looks as if the sliders were moved around. Going into appearance mode would sometimes fix it or changing to a different shape and then going back. That happened a long time ago though.
Oh the pinchy face! That's really terrible looking. That might be it. _____________________

Both the wind light and non have inconsistant Avatar lighting which is most noticeable in the face.
Thats what this is. turn you avatar and you will notice the face changes in the same manner. While this effect might be "realistic" I guess. It makes us look worse much of the time. |

the only face problem i have when i zoom in to take a picture the face turns into this alien cone head like. and the only way to fix it is to zoom back out and then i zoom back in and it does it again just like the disapearing hair issue.

if you have an extra skin or shape try switching to that one and see if the problem persists, or as trout says try rebaking, but in all fairness most of the posters here gave you sound advice.

I've had this on occasion, but not with the face, was with my torso settings. It's like shape drift on the rendering side or something. I've seen it where without changing any sliders, and the number values never change, my torso length keeps getting longer visually. One night it was really bad and i watched it while going about my business.. my fingers reached nearly mid thigh when i noticed it, and by the time i called it quits they only reached to mid pocket length. In & out of appearance mode doesn't always work, but I found that changing any slider that has to do with your physical shape by 1, and then saving does. Relogging also fixes it. Sometimes changing to a duplicate copy of your shape works too. Sometimes a tp will make it start, other times a tp will fix it. It's not a texture thing, or a ruth problem.

I have not been playing long but I have noticed a few times when I am zooming in that my face looks like it's melting! It only lasts a second or two and then goes back to normal. No idea what that is or why it happens but it looks weird! lol

I have seen a couple mentions of pinchy face.
Is that when the face seems to look as though it is all squeezed together, almost alien looking? If so, anyone know what causes it? I have had it happen a few times and no clue why... _____________________
