I just read this this afternoon after coming home from work: http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9093038&intsrc=hm_listLooks like Intel is pushing for low end, cheap computers for every one in the world. And, despite those computers being only suitable for web surfing, email, and maybe basic word processing there will undoubtedly be quite a few attempt to run SL on those machines. I can hear the whines and cries now.......my computer won't work with SL. They will try to convince us all that they should be able to have all the sliders maxed and still be able to play with 75 fps. And the chimers in.........it's going to comical.......LOL

There's gonna be an avalanche sooner than that - The Sims Online pulls the plug soon, in August I think. (cue confusion when people join who use the word "sim" to be the avatar, not the land). OTOH I don't know how many people play TSO. Maybe there's so few we won't even notice.

The actual last day of play is 7/31/08. There are thousands of players in the game. I am not sure how many of them will come to SL as most of them are against SL. LOL. But there are many such as my self that have come over. LOL. I have not played tso since they announced the sundown of the game have been playing SL ever since and I am so addicted. Confusion and all.

I recall looking up the specs on Wal-Mart's ultra-cheap $199 US computer, and the hardware appeared to be capable of running Second Life. It's so cheap because all the software- including the Operating System- is freeware.
The cheap computer hardware already exists. It's up to consumers to Just Say No to Microsoft.
P.S.: If there is going to be sudden, large-scale propagation of these low-end computers around the world, and there will be a demand for graphic virtual worlds like Second Life, the smart business person finds a way to fill that demand.

LOL TSO had two times I can recall while there where people left en masse to come to different places. First time everyone ran to There.com. (My main account already tried SL out when that had happened in 03) Then it was around Oct. 04 (When I came the second time) when it started up again. TSO always seemed to have disgruntled players and the lag was horrible so it was easy for people to run off all at once. Something kept us coming back though. Had to be the people because you got bored taking your toon to the bathroom, shower, sleeping, etc over and over again.

Those eras of TSO players going in to the game indeed where intersting ones.....Then again 2004 was not one of the best times to enter second life. Lag was really bad at that stage 1.5 client wasnt one of the best clients ever done. But then again 1.6 and 1.7 were even worse ehehhe

That was my first MMO and I figured SL surely was the same. lol But yeah, 04 had the worst viewer so far. Of course they are not done yet.. you never know how bad the next will be.

I have not been to too many, so with all the lag of TSO and the poor graphics and loneliness in There I pretty much just sit by when SL starts to fall apart and wait for the band aid to be put on the servers. hehe

Yeah, I would get mad at one and go to the other. lol TSO is closing because EA has decided it has run it's course. They pulled the plug on development right after opening it up to free accounts and merging the cities to one map. Just another one of those EA moves that hurts the customers.

Especialy now that the up arrow activates run in the new RC. I just take off for no reason. I followed friends to and from TSO and SL. Like a ping pong ball back and forth. TSO was incredible during the beta. The bugs were the best part! lol

Wait, wasn't some competitor in shining armour supposed to come along and pwn SL? TSO is doing it wrong As for the mad inrush of noobs: let's face it, we are like email users in the 1970's. That first wave is going to be so big, when it finally comes to cyberspace it will be cresting up in the clouds... *lays foundation of Respublica Blingtardia, for it is a given now*

I think SL was supposed to be the knight in shining armor that was to pwn it. And well.. I guess it did.

i'm using my old WinME as a slave for text, emails and Sleek. if i can get a newer, faster, bigger memory puter for cheap like that, and use it as a slave and dump this ME (or is that M.F.) i'm going to. don't need graphics for a slave. just need ram.

All those hours building skills; by the time I had them I was kind of bored with the whole thing. I liked making pizzas for a while...I did have a nice Morrocan hotel on an island. When it came time to pay to play I dropped out.

Also the bug where when you were coding and someone jumped off right before the pay out you got payed max everytime. I was in Jolly Pines and played a toon named The Edge. We played for awhile after it went pay to play. I still can't believe we bought the special collector's edition game box. Boy, that was dumb. lol

Boy, that was dumb. lol Oh yeah I had forgotten about the coding thing. I'm kind of chagrined to think about how much time I spent on it. For a while I had two accounts running on side by side computers...
