I made my account last year but didn't start until last thursday.

I figured out how to put on new clothes and got a new skin and such, its very fun...


Ive been randomly teleporting to arbitrary locations on the map, generally where people are.. sometimes ive found I appear at someones house though and people have gotten very upset with me.

So I stopped doing that kind of thing..

I think it's really cool that people do the whole naked thing, but I hate when people associate it with sex.. nudity is cool without sexuality..

and I guess it goes to say the over-abundance of sex themed places is a little bit too much, but they are easy to stay away from.

I seem to be enjoying the sims like Medieval, Feudal, Fantasy, etc..

I made my charatcer look like a fantasyish Monk

Anyway, just saying hello, and if anyone has any tips regarding whats okay and what isn't, clue me in.. (like I learned teleporting around on the map can anger people).

Also: is it possible to live Linden free? so far ive not owned or used or needed any linden's for anything

I'm surprised you were able to teleport to various locations when you joined. Is that working again now?

It's possible, but maybe your SL world won't be amazing without some Lindens. I joined the exact same date as a friend in SL for 9 months he said he'd never EVER put real money into SL, now he rents a fair chunk of land.

Not if you want the really cool stuff.

Hi Cen! Welcome (back) to SL, and to the forums! Sure, it's possible to have a great time in SL without spending a cent. You can explore, take classes and learn to build or script (then actually SELL THINGS, lol!), collect freebies to make a really cool avatar (or set of avatars), join groups and socialize ... there's tons of stuff to do.

True, just TPing randomly around can be a little risky , but if you find a linden road on mainland and follow that, you can safely wander about.

I thought the join date here on the forums was the first time logged into the forums themselves. I could be wrong though... maybe it is payment added date, but iono o.o

I didn't find the forums until quite late into my SL experience, and my birth date is Feb 2007.

There is plenty of cool stuff to do in SL without spending a dime. Freebies abound, as do fun places to explore, games to play, and obviously you've found the roleplay. As for land, you can live without that as well. Some people love making a little place to live and decorating it, whereas some people love being footloose and fancy free. It's all up to you. At any rate, have a great time out there on the grid and jump in here any time to say howdy!

I am a newbie myself but just wanted to pop in and ask you - Have you looked at the exchange rate? Get yourself a couple thousand Linden and have fun! It is worth it!

For great Medieval/Fantasy - I would recommend Avilion, Everwind (a bit like an MMORPG within SL), Ceildah (a quest for the Broken Harp begins there). There are many Medieval, elven, fantasy sims in SL. Enjoy!

As for not spending any lindens in SL - I've often thought of starting an AV to try that out. In addition to the typical freebies you can pick up at The Free Dove, Yadni's Junkyard, etc., there are now some really wonderful free items offered by various merchants in SL to those under 30 days old. Some merchants offer a voucher where you can choose ANYTHING in their store, so you can get some really nice skins, hair, clothes, etc.

I just popped over to The Gnubie Store earlier and was amazed at how it has grown and the wonderful items there for 0L - most from well-known designers.

If you don't choose to rent a home/land currently, you can set your home location at NCI Kuula by joining the free NCI Homeowner's Group.

Unfortunelly Everwind is closed since february. Now RP on sim where Everwind is Steampiunk style also build by Grace Loudon.

Welcome to SL Cen. Join a group called Freestyle, you get lots of nice freebies from clothes to AO's. You dont have to have Lindens, be picky with the free stuff...take only what is made well and that you like. You can even find a job, and rent a small apartment fairly cheap. Have fun!

The forum join date thing is truly mysterious. At one time there was a bug that showed the oldest oldbies as having joined in January 1970. I'm not sure if it has been fixed.

Such a date is the result of a Unix system where the system date has not been set correctly.

If the Lindens had booted a server where the date had not been set, that server would starts it's life on January 1st 1970 at time 00:00.

For PCs the equivalent used to be (probably still is) January 1st 1980.
