Rockwell - it sounds like you have a "healthy" and realistic understanding of the land market. There can certainly be nice profit for those willing to accept the risk and operate as traders in what is mostly arbitrage of market efficiencies. I suspect though that many of the folks who have complained are not large volume, high turnover traders and those folks probably need to reset their expectations about land ownership in SL as a serious investment.

SL is am amazing place and I know I am glad to be a part of it. The ride has been quite interesting so far and I look forward to where it is headed!

I don't have an issue with the fact that they lowered prices. My issue is that they lowered them so drastically overnight. It makes for an unstable economy. It undermines consumer confidence. It evokes fear for the future. It comes during a period of extremely poor performance for the platform.

It makes it seem like they are desperate. Personally, I am looking at it now as just the start of prices being slashed. The first real indicator that virtual land in SL won't be worth much and won't cost much in the coming months. Of course, they will keep tier high.

They should have lowered it 20% at most, not 40%. In my non-economic expert opinion.

The bottom line for me is that I have NO trust in the people who manage SL. They make one poor decision after another and they can't fix the Grid so that we can enjoy it, let alone run a business on it.

$1000 is way too high. I would not invest in this company at any price.

Good points. People will be less inclined to bring new capital into the economy now that their confidence in its stability has been damaged. And if people merely expect Linden Lab to now act more unpredictably in the future, that increases the perceived risk of any kind of investment in SL. They're just hoping the lower price tag will compensate. They might be right.

What about open space sims? We now pay more for 4 open space sims than one full one?

No doubt there will be lots of questions about how this affects those residents that have ordered islands very recently, and how it affects Openspaces or the Educational pricing. I will follow up with a much more detailed blog post in a day or two

Of course they lowered prices, it's just the calm before the storm. Wait 'til later when they'll raise them enough to make up for now and later.

Typical fashion.
