Can someone tell me the best size to get a good looking pic in your profile. Every size I've tried distorts the photo.

thanks

512 X 512 works just fine....any increment of that also.

Found this post:

From: Torian Carter
I came across this problem and did screen shots and then measured the exact pixels to get the size. Because of the size and format restrictions imposed by the SL system, I have found it best to scale the longest dimension to one of the multiples (512, 256, 128) and keep the aspect ratio the same. When uploaded, these look distorted when viewed in textures, but just fine with no distortion when used in your actual profile.

Here are the sizes:
Profile Pic: 168 x 126 (Use 512x384 or 256x192 for upload)
My Picks: 290 x 164 (Use 512x292 for upload)
1st Life Pic 135x135 (Use 256x256 or 128x128 for upload.)

Of course, you have to Snapshot to Disk, then edit the picture in a graphic program to crop and scale it to the correct size.

Hope that helps. :)

I like the warped look especially if it makes me thinner :)

If you have a good graphics editor, the Crop and Resize tools with lockable/unlockable aspect ratio are the best way to handle it.

The post above is right about the resolutions, but, is missing some instructions I think are needed. (>_>;)

Here are the sizes again:
Profile Pic: 168 x 126
My Picks: 290 x 164
1st Life Pic: 135x135

I agree with Michael... 512x512 is best... So..... What I do is start with the original pic and start the crop tool. Size the crop to EXACTLY the resolution I want, then lock the aspect ratio. That gives me a rectangle to work with so that the pic will not get warped once it hits the frame it's going into. Then I manually drag and resize the crop frame to fit the image I'm trying to capture. (^_^)

After I crop I resize the image with an unlocked aspect ratio and I ALWAYS use 512x512. The picture that comes from it will look warped now, but once it's framed in the window you had cropped it for, everything will be okay. \(^o^)/

Please check out my own profile for an example. Those are all done using the steps I mentioned here.... Heck, even my forum AV is made the same way, just at 50x50. (^_^)y
