I dropped you a postcard, but I'm not sure it got through. And I forgive you for cleaning up in trivia a few years ago.

I was gonna participate, 'til I realized that postcards reveal your account e-mail address to the sendee.

I saw that too, Mari, and went and created an alternative email address and switched it through the site. If you dont want to stay with an alternative address, you can always switch-send the post card-then switch back...though it is a hassle

To help with positioning the camera, I wrote the following script. The two key things are that you'll probably have to adjust the HEIGHT and that you'll need to hover the mouse over the Snapshot button (while waiting for your avatar to stop looking around).
CODE

Update: 58 pictures so far At this rate we'll be done in two weeks ![]() _____________________

why can't we just send you a snapshot from inworld? Snapshots in world are limited to 512x512, which also means the uploaded snapshot is squished to fit that mold, which means the heads get squished too. Also, getting 1000 pictures dropped on my already unorganized inventory isn't going to help anything. ![]() _____________________

Being fascinated with the mouse pointer - that IS intertesting isn't it?
If the mouse stops moving the Avi gets bored and looks straight ahead again. Hey, about your subtitle... so YOU'RE the one who invented the crackpot! Wow.... |

100 pictures so far
![]() For those of you worried about lighting, please understand it from my angle (no pun intended) 1) 100 people have already sent in images. 2) Lighting variety is distracting to the eye when images are viewed in rapid succession (which I plan to do in a machinima), or in a collage (which I also plan) 3) Restarting now would be basically forcing everyone to resubmit more time and effort to a project that’s already asked much of their time and effort, free of charge. 4) I submit people are being too dramatic about noon. My avatar looks fine in noon. If you’ve tweaked your av to look its best in sunset, well… sorry. But not every time is sunset. I’ve never looked at an avatar in my 4 years of SL and went “damn… they’re ugly at noon, but beautiful at sunset” The evenness of the lighting allows people to judge avatars for their physical merits or lack thereof, not lighting composition.5) People are already confused enough camming the camera and sending postcards. Asking them to also consider photo light composition (which is a heady subject all by itself) would limit the scope of the project too much to fashion models and their photographers. I want EVERYONE submitting photos. Ctrl-Shift-Y is much better than setting up a variable sunset/sunrise on an avatar, pointing them in the direction of the sun, and taking a snapshot (which would also give everyone a yellow tint to their face). _____________________

And for the record, the avatars sent thus far are absolutely smashing, regardless of high noon.

Is this project being promoted anywhere other than the fourms? (Bump, hehe)
I would be happy to post a sign and include a pose box at my shops in world. |

It is being promoted on SLUniverse as well.
However, Lordfly, if you want to be done in 15 minutes I could send out a message on a few shopping groups. You would immediately get thousands of shots of pretty female avatars. Plus a LOT more complaints about noon lighting, lol. I've been assuming you want a little more variety than that ![]() |

This sounds great Lordfly!
Next time I get a chance, I'll tell people in Caledon about it - I'm a bit projected up to my eyeballs in stuff I gotta remember. but this sounds cool. Expect a rather polite stampede of neovictorians, steampunks, villians and mad scientists... _____________________

High noon... ack. Sunrise or Sunset, with the av facing the sun is best!
