I would have interpreted it the same way...but in 20/20 hindsight, Land Baron should have sent an IM to both parties, requesting they inform him of their plans and instructing him how the property should be dispositioned. I don't think privacy is going to win out at the end of the day; I think the ability to connect will.
At some point, one's ability to connect will be based on one's willingness to forgo privacy. Because in order to have justice, RL identities will have to be known..its just a matter of time. In that case, in virtual worlds, the first people who step up to dispense "Justice" will probably be the last people we want in positions of authority. It will get weirder before it gets good. As to how it is implemented, I think it will come out of the community organizers/creators like Desmond, NCI, and others.. They are also the folks who have real experience what the problems are so LL will not ask their advise.. I have said it before and I'll say it again, LL needs to set up an paid advisory board made up of people like Desmond (or his designate), the creator of NCI and others of that ilk...folks who have persevered in the face of the birth pangs and made SL a better place. That advisory board could suggest structures and procedures..with punishments a lot like those on the Police Blotter now (tho I would recommended a lot more suspensions). It that is already in place, when the RL authorities come calling, its a done deal and privacy has been protected. Regulate ourselves before someone does it for us. Partnering and sharing land etc..has to have an agreement before hand that comes into play ...a pre nuptial agreement or no partnering, that should take care of the drama queens. _____________________

Well yes, that's pretty obvious but I'm more interested in seeing how people would envision such a process being implemented and the manner in which it could be enforced both on a large and small scale. I have a feeling that there are some communities out there that have some loosely formalized methods for arbitration of minor resident to resident disputes. There are many issues that might be able to be addressed in such a manner that might be difficult to address in rl given the complexity of virtual worlds and rl jurisdictional issues. There are some things that are best left to the rl lawyers but I know of some online communities like LiveJournal that have elected (?) community members that sit on the abuse teams to offer their view on the interpretation of the TOS of which the decisions are enforceable. They are certainly not without controversy but as I understand it, the GTeam currently only has LL staff on it. Well, to be fair... Getting order in the Court wouldn't be hard. All the Judge would have to do is right click and freeze the people.

Speaking as the head guy at NCI... over my dead body. Literally. If I were put in that position, I'm sure I'd drop dead from extra stress within a few months. The human body and mind is not designed to endure over 2000 millidesmonds of SL related stress on an ongoing basis. _____________________

The last thing I wanna do is log in and deal with Ken and Barbie situations like that. It's about as fun as walking over broken glass. And there's no way that justice comes out of the process, even with all good intents accounted for. _____________________

Haven't read the past 3 pages (take me to court!!) But in the US court type TV shows are big. I would love a people court in SL!!! ... They have decided to have their dispute settled here. The loser will be derezzed
