why doesn't the OP do that?

Because the OP was brought up to be polite, even to those who don't deserve it?

Okay Kay (that rhymed), I will join the NCI group too! I am really curious to see if mr. Desperate SeekingLuv will IM me. Maybe this is more common now than in 2007. I could be too old now, if they only "hunt" for 2-5 months old avatars.

I'd be interested to know how that goes.

I forgo joining groups because general chat sessions make for some extremely annoying interruptions in the course of other things.

Yes, there is also that. With one group which was recommended to me in these forums, that chatter is actually quite funny; but I can imagine others where it would become a nuisance, to say the least.

If you want to use an alt to be in groups with and your computer can't handle running more than one instance of the SL viewer, you might try using a non-graphical viewer such as Metabolt or AjaxLife to run the alt account with.

I'm very intrigued by the notion of a non-graphical viewer. How do you control your avatar through such? Do they give you text descriptions of rooms?

I second Kay here. I found the METAbolt homepage through Google and the METAbolt forums, but a very, very quick search didn't bring up the most interesting part for me: Is it possible to open inventory, sort, search and create new folders. I guess I can just join and see myself, but things are a bit hectic RL just now.

From METAbolt first page:

"METAbolt is ideal if:

the SL viewer is not allowed at your work place

you have a low powered computer that has difficulty running the SL viewer

you have a low speed internet connection e.g. dial up/ISDN

you need to run multiple alts at the same time for security, group management, modelling etc functions

you can't or don't want to run the SL viewer all the time but need the ability to stay online for communications or other reasons

you have a metered monthly bandwidth and need to control it"

...So is there any chance that the NCI could make it's lessons available as, say, Notecards? Either free of charge, or for a modest fee. That way, people in different time zones could still use your tutorials even if they can't attend actual classes. I know I'd find this immensely useful.
Yes, each instructor should have a notecard that covers the lesson in brief. You can ask each instructor for a copy of the "Class Notes" and I can't see a reason why you won't get one. (^_^)

Add to that, NCI is a volunteer organization. It is funded by donations, advertising services, and the generosity of its staff. Help, education, and educational supplies from NCI are free by default. (^_^)y

That's good. :) I'll start asking them.
