Let's Talk Zindra 1 - Developing the Zindra Sim. Read the first post before voting

I really like that idea.

100% disagree. Having a sim that helps people get to Zindra is very useful.

I'd vote for leaving it empty. Or almost empty. Give people a low lag landing point. No shops. Maybe a little landscaping.

Why? Nobody wants to go to an empty sim, unless it's a sandbox.

Nor does anybody want to go to Zindra, just like nobody wants to go to continent X or Y or whatever they're called. Even if someone says they want to go to Zindra, what they really mean is they want to go to have sex, or see sex, or buy sex toys - for which Zindra may not even be the best place, and certainly going to one designated sim on Zindra isn't a good way to find what they want.

Even without the Mono-induced border crossing lag, wandering around a continent is a slow, laggy, inefficient way to do things. I see no value to going to an arbitrary empty sim there.

But let's say you're right. Why not just solve the problem by having a "take me to random Zindra parcel" operation. No need for an empty sim, no controversy over where it is, no distortion of land prices close to it.

When this came up at a Blondin meeting, I was reminded of a recent thread wondering where all the adult forests were, and thinking that Zindra would be a good spot for that, because it connects to a wooded sim (Oritz) with the infohub to the east. With a properly forested (and lewdly poseballed) Zindra landscape, the path between Mosh and the Oritz/Gilda infohub could be somebody's XXX forest fantasy. Not so sure, however, that LL would be eager to put prurient poseballs on public land.

There are "continents" people do want to go to, they know about by name. Caledon. Furnation. Well, now Linden Labs has a continent like that. Zindra.

Nobody would know about or use it, Why create a new user interface when having a sim called "Zindra" solves the problem already.

Um, it's adjacent to what is otherwise the best known Zindra sim (Mosh), and an infohub. There's already going to be higher land prices around there. Why the flock do you care anyway?

That means they want to go to the sexies, which as we know, are just a subset of Zindra.


That depends on how it's handled. It could be offered automatically any time someone searches for Zindra, perhaps in a block above the classifieds that appear in All Search.


Because what's happening here is the sort of entanglement with subsets of users that damages LL's need to be independent of its users. Otherwise it leads to a perception of favoritism, roughly similar to the reaction around including a third-party commercial link in the inventory library.

But also because it's confusing. It's difficult enough explaining sims, regions, and continents to new users without having to explain that Zindra is both a floor wax and a dessert topping.

Yes, but that means they want to get to "Zindra", not "Mosh" or "Arapaima".

On the map? I don't see anything like that on the map.


I have only one thing to say to that. Bosh. No, I lie, I have two things to say to that. I apologize profusely for this seeming mendacity, but I only thought of the second of these things as I was saying "Bosh". Therefore, I have two things to say to that. Bosh, and twaddle. Now you might think that "Twaddle" is a bit hard, but I don't, I think it's quite appropriate. If they were to rename that sim "Ukridge" and fill it with chickens that part of Zindra would still have commercial advantage.

Don't forget the flaming sword.

Yeah, that's right. Most people are flocking to the Russian Revolutionary Fashion exhibit at the Zindra Museum of Fine Arts or discussing Proust at the local coffee den.

Just an arrival area. I like that idea. For me, visiting any of the adult sims is just a nightmare. The lag, rubberbanding, sinking into the ground, etc are far worse than anywhere else. I go there on't to specific shop or venue. I don't explore at all, it's just to much.
