HI...
I have jsut opened a new store (it's not got everything in it yet, im still adding stuff) and i was wondering if anyone would be interested in trading LMs to go in their product boxes?

Basically, i was thinking that people could trade LMs and then add them to their product boxes.. (obviously if it gets too many a notecard could be made and the LMs could be added to that)...
i jsut thought it might be good for customoers to have a list of stores to visit and also could be a way to increse other people traffic.. or is this a bad idea?

comments welcome.. good or bad .. (not too bad though.. i might pout) :)

I think it's a great idea in principle. You scratch my back, I scratch yours, everyone benefits. In practice, however, it could get a little messy, both in terms of upkeep, and of trust.

The trust part is relatively minor, I think, since most people are generally honorable. If one person out of 10 or 20 doesn't hold up his end of the deal, you're not losing all that much.

Upkeep could be a real problem though if the system is popular. It could be tremendously time consuming to swap out all the notecards in a hundred different for sale items every time a new landmark needs to be added.

Also, there undoubtedly would be diminishing returns as the list grows. A package full of a hundred landmarks is no easier on the shopper than a search results list. I know I wouldn't take the time to read a notecard full of so many landmarks.

Maybe someone else will chime in with some better ideas on how to make a system like this work well. I'm afraid I see more potential problems than benefits.

Devils Advocaat .. well? it's Christmas init?

If you made woolly pullovers and I made woolly pullovers, why would I want to give my customers your landmark?

If you made woolly pullovers and I made motorcycles why would anyone looking for a woolly pullover want a motorcycle?

I doubt many people are after a diverse range of stuff all at the same time although of course, the customer would be delighted mebbe for a landmark to a competitor and wider choice.

I'm not a content creator. I only create drama .. ignore me ;)

It's an interesting idea Sara. Good responses too. It actually relates to something I was talking about with a friend a while back... some form of reciprocal marketing (not sure if that's the right term, sorry if not).

My thought was of stores having single-prim 'mini-vendors' in their premises for other stores, with maybe a freebie item on offer and, of course, a landmark. Noting what Bilbo said though, this would have to be thought about. But perhaps clothing, jewellery and shoe stores could get together like this. I think it would have to be just a small selection anyway - and you'd want to choose where you link to so you're sending your customers to good places!

It could be one way for small store owners to give their customers access to a wider range of products. Kind of a co-operative arrangement.

The TP idea could work, but probably with only a small number included.

By the way, I checked your profile picks for your store but couldn't find it. (unless i ws being my usual thick self!) EDIT: oops sry just spotted it! :-) And if you're interested in 'swapping picks' with my place selling a small selection of RL photography, IM me.

Personally, I'm not up for including other people's LMs in my products. But, join my thread here: /327/3f/230356/1.html and I'll be happy to add you to my picks. I think I have one more left :)

What would happen if a business went belly up or changed their product line? Then you'd have a bunch of useless LM's in the box that people would quickly learn to ignore.

Bad enough that there is so much false advertising already (yesterday I looked for an event and headed for a place promising a trivia contest. When I got there all I found was an empty store). I'm sure people are getting leery of being sent on wild goose chases.

How about adding something to your boxes that let buyers get something for nothing? I don't mean a product, but how about a LM to some interesting place, something they haven't tried?

Let's say you're selling some boxed shoes and in there have a LM to a museum or an amusement. Quite often, such places have some sort of welcome box or a freebie to which they could add a reciprocal LM to your place.
Just because I'm buying shoes from you does not mean I wouldn't be interested in art - or motorcycles.

A very salient point Brann.
I have a plethora of redundant LMs in my own inventory. I am consistently stunned and disappointed at how many no longer point to where I created them for.
