If anyone finds out .... let me know. LOL

I can totally relate to his frustration. In the 14 months i've been in SL.... meeting and having intelligent interesting conversations with like minded adults has been a bit like wading thru mud. I've made a couple great friends and I do spend some time with them.....but as far as actual places to go to just hang out and talk..... none come to mind that are consistant. There's one coffee shop that seems to have that kind of atmosphere that I have been to a handful of times...but it's hit or miss.

I've also looked in search under discussions but i always seem to miss the ones I'd be interested in. Maybe it would be worth it to start organizing my own at my studio..... But SL is like RL in that in the day to day ya don't make instant friends....most chatter is idle and surface oriented.......it's hard to find good conversation even we are out in public being sociable. People either click on some level, or they don't.... SL doesn't alter that dynamic really.

You would think that in a grid full of adults that you would find many opportunities for good conversation. I agree with Milla, it's just akward to have long discussions with people in SL. It's kind of like being in an airport terminal. Just a constant flux of strangers.

I would have to say its not so much the individuals but instead the atmosphere. Have the right ambiance to promote discussion and let the peeps roll through. They either get it and stick around for awhile or they don’t and move on. Not an airport terminal but instead a campfire where you sit and unwind. Its like asking where’s the best place to get shoes. I'm sure there are lots of places that havn't been discovered.
Oh campfires, Maybe find the best camping spots. Kick the zombie campers out, take their chairs, stay at the keyboard and chat.
Traffic gaming business owners would freak out. “why are you all talking? I don’t pay you to talk! Shut up and sit!” lol

SEARCH > EVENTS > DISCUSSION shows some interesting debates at times on anything from flea control for furries to political debates.

I recently had a resident ask me if I knew of a place to go to have serious discussions in SL™

I entered SL for a meeting of LibraryThing members. While that organization seems to have disappeared from SL, I still, occasionally, meet up with book readers. There is the Bookstacks group that meets on Saturdays (and has monthy live musicians) and BookMooch group that meets on Sundays (tends to be some familiar names show up at both). There is also something during the week, but I have never gotten around to figuring out what that might be. The BookMooch group has its own island, but has lately been meeting at many different locations.

The discussions tend to be on an adult level, and do not always stick to books. I recall one Oscar Wilde discussion that somehow started talking about Anne Rice and her erotic pen-named works, and her current life of Jesus series.

Oh, and there is a real world publisher that has their own island and has in world meetings with real world authors like Dean Koontz, and George R.R. Martin (who came as one of his characters, well came as himself, but avatar was one of his characters).

The Group Communication Arts has regular events at the Cookie Town Center that include poetry readings, book discussion and so on that some of you might find enjoyable.
Anyway….thanks all for your responses. I’m making my own little list and cant wait to try some of these out myself. :)
